I purchased Spellforce and the Guild and when I launched The Guild my AVG program stopped the process and put GOGWRAP.exe in quarantine.
It sees it as malware and I was not sure what the file was for and if I should take it out of quarantine or not.
Can you give any insight into this file; what it is, and what it is sued for?
Thank you
It's a launcher application that is used with some of GOG's games for compatibility reasons. The exact reasons are different for each game. I'd say AVG probably made a false positive detection.

No viruses in any of MY GOGs so far and I have a few ....
It has been used for things like AutoHotKey, disabling the ability to alt-tab out of games that don't allow it, etc.
Most of the time it's something very simple, you can usually run the original exe without using gogwrap.exe.
It's not a virus. I have The Guild, and my AV doesn't have any problem with it. AVG is being silly.
I can also assure you that it is not a real problem. I play The Guild myself, and I never had any malware problems with it.
I just find it funny people might think a legitimate business such as GOG would actively release a game with a virus in it.

He doesn't think it, AVG does.

My guess is that most users wouldn't suspect malice, but would instead suspect accidental spread of a virus.

I'd hope so.
I'd also hope GOG would be checking for stuff like that like crazy. I'm sure they scan the crap out of all their games.
Well, I am bummed.
I have tried to install the game 3 times now to no avail. Every time AVG tags the file before I can do anything and sends it to the Antivirus Vault, but when I go there to pull it out, I cannot find it. It does not show up.
I am at a loss as what to do.
I have thought of installing it with AVG turned off, but once it starts it will simply move it again if I try to run the game; I would think.

Just uninstall AVG. No need for virus scanners nowadays.

Can't you add the file or the directory in question to the AV's exception list (before you fire it up) ? Tell the AV to just ignore it ?

If I only knew how. If someone does please let me know.

Open the AVG window, then go to Tools > Advanced Settings > PUP Exceptions. I never personally tried this method, though...
