It’s a holiday tradition! We’ve decorated a Christmas Tree in the GOG.com office. Random people are running around in holiday hats and singing along the winners of the Holiday Songs Contest.

We think that our website deserves some holiday touch of its own and we will deliver that! During our 50% off Xmas Sale we already had four big publishers join forces with us. EA helped us with the the EA Crossword Puzzle, Interplay in the Interplay Caption Contest, thanks to Activision for the Activision Holiday Song Contest and last but not least Ubisoft motivated you guys to write some Ubisoft themed New Year’s Eve Resolutions.

So it’s finally time for the Third Annual GOG.com Screenshot Scavenger Hunt to start! Here are the rules: From now until Friday the 30th of December 2011 we’re going to have some Holiday themed screenshots up on our website for you to find. ;) They will be hidden in our game cards, surrounded by all of the regular screenshots. The trick is (as you can see below) that some of them will be “spiced up” with some holiday themed devices:

When you find a holiday themed screenshot (there are 20 of them in total), be sure to write down the name of the game. When you’ve got them all, list them all in an email to "contest@gog.com" with the subject line being "GOG.com 2011 Scavenger Screenshot Hunt". From every valid application we will pick 10 winners who got all the games right and gift them two games from the entire catalogue (excluding The Witcher 2). The contest ends on Friday December 30th 2011 11:59 GMT

I must say that out of all types of contests GOG runs, the screenshot ones are still my favourites, even though they take a long time to solve... and yes, they get more difficult as time passes and the catalogue grows. But actually, if put some thought behind it, you can narrow down the games you search (or decide on a good order to search them in).

But I always have a lot of fun toggling through the shots and looking for stuff! Overall I found the modifications a bit easier to find than in previous years, except for the one that was quite different from all the others.
Holy hell, totally lucked out - found the last one.
AGH! I just spent 2 hours looking for #20 and passed it 5 TIMES!
Hmm,...I found 19. And three more, where I`m not sure, whether the x-mas-decoration is part of the game, or not.

Not quiet sure, if I should send them in.

Try finding that same scene of the game in Google and see if the decorations are still there.

Ah,...good idea...thank you! :o)

HiPhish: Are you really expecting me to dig through all the screenshots of the entire GoG catalogue in hope to get 2 games for free?

That would take hours! It would be much easier and cheaper to just buy the games for money.

Cardian: Of course, paying money would be much much cheaper than winning them without having to pay money...
I don't know what you salary is, but one or two hours of work should be enough for everyone to buy a 9.99$ game, which equals two games during this sale. It would probably take me more than one hour to go through all the games in the catalogue, so it is cheaper. Time is valuable as well.
OMFG this was impossible LAST year when GOG's selection of games was 25% of what it is today!!!
Pity I don't have time for this one :( Stupid exams...

But GOG: when will I get my game for the Interplay contest? :S
What is GOG going to do about the vulnerability, though?
avatar
CSXbot: I found a vulnerability in the contest =)
Email with explanation and exploit sent to contest@gog.com
I did the very same thing last year, with (I presume) the very same vulnerability. And nothing happened. So don't get your hopes up.

It's probably too late to do anything about it now. I would expect people using it to tell GOG that they did (I will). It's not that much of a vulnerability, it just gives a significant edge to people who are computer literate (like previous contests gave edges to those familiar with cryptography or with advanced googling).
Also stuck on 19...
Dang it, was almost fooled by some games with christmas references built in...
May I ask why that one modified screenshot is so hard to spot? Is the "target" so small? Or does it just blend in very well?

I'm currently at 8 discovered screenshots and I fear I will overlook something.
