I think it's pretty much a fact of life that as a company gets bigger, the quality of their customer support decreases*.
*Unless they are aware of this and actively try to combat it.

I sympathize with the OP's establishing boundaries on how far he's willing to go. Rolling back drivers is the opposite of the way it's supposed to work on GOG, isn't it?
Bravo! Be the change, etc.

True..... but to be fair, GOG is bound by their own claims, not Valve's. The 4th point on the About Us page promises "after-sales support of all purchased games." Granted, a flaky 2008 release probably isn't what they had in mind.

I'm can't read the fine print of anything. ADD won't allow it, but SOME criticisms regarding customer service here seem obtuse...like they can't read between the lines!
Don't you buy here because the purchase is unrestricted? It can be stored and shared to your liking, long after the digital service expires?
Honestly thought there was a NO refund policy over here. You could download any game, copy it to a hard drive and say "Oh, It don't work!" over and over.
Haven't you bought the skeleton key? You won't have the same ride forever. It's like was previously stated the diversity and complexity of everyone individuals PC is hard to cater to, last place I'd expect it is here, where you could take it around to any other. Is it taboo to speak of this? Cause I don't think some complainers get that, and that's what brings out all the defense. Then again it might be me. Haven't been engrossed in PC culture since C64 days. Getting a proper refund is like pulling teeth everywhere, unless you stop the charge and if you're on Paypal that's not that hard. I would imagine chargebacks are a big problem if they're allowed in the service terms, or where ever.
This rant has nothing to do with the lack or response of course, or defense of the service or lack thereof. (sorry)

Well, there you have it. Nowhere on the game page does it state that Win7 is supported on the GoG release. Therefore you cannot expect any official support for it on that platform.
That being said, I'm running the game fine on W7 x64, although I also have rare crashes. Seems to be something with the video card, but I haven't taken the time to figure it out as it's rare and I don't play too often.

it supposed to work oppossite with anything.
gog, steam, retail, goddamn flash game.
but the world supposed to be fair too.
Rerolling drivers is not a big deal. Sometime ago Nvidia themselves told customers to do that as their driver caused slight overheating...
New driver release messing up games especially ones which weren't that stable in the first place is as old as drivers updates themselves.
OP makes too much deal out of simple driver reroll. which can be undone fairly easy in 2-3 min.
to make it simple:
stupid boundry is stupid.

True. Another disadvantage of offering newer games, I guess.

I’ve been following this thread from the very beginning. As I see it JohnJSal started it not because he can not play King’s Bounty he purchased on GOG – but mainly because he did not have ANY answer to his emails/requests.
Now we can read that he tried to run this game on officially unsupported OS. The question is: what is, or ought to be, GOG policy on such cases: should they ignore such requests or should they send short email: 'Sorry we can’t help you'. I vote for user friendly option -email - (after all he purchased the game). If GOG choose to ignore such emails – it should be clearly stated somewhere on gog.com.
And few final word for JohnJSal:
In my opinion your first post was not fair. What you wrote was (simply said): I bought a game from GOG, I have instant crashes, I emailed support – they ignored me – this platform sucks. I think that’s why you got some harsh responses from users who think (and that is my opinion as well) that GOG, with it’s community, DRM-free policy, games - is far better than any other platform on the market.
I may be wrong but I think you are new to PC gaming. Countless combinations of software/hardware cause issues/conflicts/problems – you name it. Installing/uninstalling older/newer/customized drivers, additional codecs etc is normal procedure here. With retro gaming it’s even more complicated. You can think yourself: “I will only install newer drivers over older ones” – but truth is that with each generation of drivers you get some new fixes AND some new bugs (someone mentioned here NVIDIA case with overheating GFX on 196.75 drivers and NVIDIA recommendation to revert BACK to 196.21).
I also don’t understand this philosophy: “I will NOT try solutions community has to offer because I’m not 100% sure it will work for me and apart from this such solutions MAY cause problems with other software”.
GOG team realizes that with increasing popularity of Windows 7 – the only way to be on the market in the future – is to ensure compability of GOG’s catalog with this system. So – maybe you can’t play King’s Bounty now – save it for the later. There are no time limit with GOG games :-).
And in the meantime there are plenty of other games here which work on Win7 (unofficially of course) – give GOG a chance – you will not regret it.

I think the answer is incredibly obvious. There is absolutely no good reason that, upon reading an email, the staff member can't then spend less than a minute replying with something simple . It doesn't matter if the customer made an error, I mean I've worked customer service in retail. If a customer called and had mistakenly misinterpreted a sale/coupon/ return policy or whatever the fuck, I would explain it to them, not just hang up the phone on them . Actling like that person should be blown off is complete idiocy . If any poster here replies "they should be ignored" , i WILL TAMPER WITH THEIR NEXT MEAL.

After a week I sent a letter to the feedback department expressing my disappointment with being ignored, and after another week I still haven't received any response to that complaint either.
It's a pretty big disappointment that GOG doesn't even respond to customer problems with their games. After some outside research, it seems to be an issue with 64-bit systems, although others suggest driver problems or other issues. I'm not entirely sure, but it leaves me with no confidence that other GOG games will play on my system.
Without any certain knowledge of the problem, and without GOG so much as responding to my questions, I have absolutely no reason to continue purchasing games from this website. So forget it, my time here is done.
John
I don't think it's a problem with 64bit, I am running Win7 64bit and all of my GOG games ran fine with the exception of The Longest Journey which had to run in a window though my brother has the same system but with an ATI card and he was able to run it in fullscreen.
I generally find that Nvidia aren't to friendly with old games.

Just got a response!
Hello,
I apologize for not being able to reply sooner. Given that King's Bounty is a relatively new game, it's doubtful that the problem would result from your drivers. Have you tried downloading and installing the latest version of DirectX from Microsoft's site ( http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/ )? Perhaps some of your DirectX files are corrupt and reinstalling them will fix the problem.
Downloading and installing the latest possible video and audio drivers could help as well.
Unfortunately I'm unable to recreate the problem on our end, nor did we encounter such crashing issues during playtests (otherwise we wouldn't have released the game, of course). I'm therefore unable to provide a 100% certain solution to your problem. I understand that you didn't encounter such problems in other games on your current system?
Regards,
Peter

Edit: I should note that I did submit my dxdiag file and yet he doesn't claim Windows 7 is the problem. On the other hand, I have my doubts if he even looked at the file, since he suggests updating DirectX although I already have the latest version.
