The big day is approaching and everyone is counting hours, minutes and seconds when the GOG staff members will appear in the spotlight! Believe us, we're all excited about this as well, but first things first. Let us give you some details, so everyone knows who, what, where and when.

Who? All of you, our dear users, are invited to watch the live streaming of the CDP Days 2011 Spring Conference.
What? The live streaming will include presentations by CD Projekt RED with their awesome game The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and GOG.com revealing some cool stuff. Both presentations will be in English.
Where? You'll be able to watch both presentations on GOG.com. On Thursday we'll put up a news post with a live stream video window embedded in it for your convenience.
When? The live streaming of CD Projekt RED presentation will start on Thursday, April 14 at 12:00 p.m. EST (that's 4:00 p.m. GMT - that's 9:00 a.m. Los Angeles time, 12:00 p.m. New York, 5:00 p.m. London time or 6:00 p.m. Warsaw time). GOG will hit the stage an hour later at 1:00 p.m. EST (5:00 p.m. GMT).

You may also notice some teaser spots on the front page. These will change during the next three days, so feel free to speculate what's it all about :). See you on Thursday!

johnnyr: Hey great announcement. All of that for alone in the dark.

What a waste of time.
What the hell are you talking about?

They announced that they're signing one of "the big five" practically right now, bringing 25+ games to GOG.com, and they are working on signing another two of "the big five" by fall. They also announced the Alone in the Dark trilogy for $5.99, which is a stupendous bargain.

If you don't think that's big news, then your ignorance is astounding. Perhaps you're too young to know any of these games?

Considering the likelihood that the rights holders of those two games are being signed onto GOG.com, I'd say you don't have much longer to wait.

Actually it was two games, a major publisher in the pipeline and two more possibilities. YES I would have liked to have had more details but they all but confirmed that it is EA coming.

I would have to listen again the stream, but personally I understood that it was one of the big five and two "other" publishers by fall.. but not necessary part of the big five. But I might be wrong...

He mentioned signing "one of these [big publishers]" for Spring (i.e. they're signing the papers for it, right now), and he added "two more of these [big publishers]" by this Fall.

So, either they've got plans to sign three of "the big five," or he misspoke.

Edit: No, I was right. Confirmation of "three of the big five" can be found in the official announcement regarding the...erm...announcement. Click HERE.

- What game made you dream of the stars - Homeworld?

- What game did you ride with Outlaws - Desperados?

- What game made you feel like a hero - Quest for Glory?

It seemed like they were going to announce which new publisher they got, and that the hints meant we were going to be getting those games starting today, like they did with Baldur's Gate. They already had Atari so AitD isn't a huge surprise (hell, they already had a bad game in the series, so getting the good ones, while nice, doesn't really quality as HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT news), and the rest felt like an announcement for an upcoming announcement.

I'm very, very excited for whatever may be happening in the coming months. But this announcement in and of itself was a dud and gave us no new information that we couldn't have just inferred. If they're not ready to say which new publishers they have on board, then there probably shouldn't have been so much build up.

Yes, please!

Dream of the stars? Given that we now know that Atari will release the games, I'm thinking UFO. Enemy Defence (the original X-COM game)

[EDIT: Changes made to improve accuracy.]

While I agree that not getting the name (and the name of a "first game") from them kinda sucked, the way they talked about it made it seem that they had hoped to already have that publisher ready to announce by today. If that had actually happened, I expect they would have announced it during CD Projekt's press release.

HOWEVER, life rarely goes as planned, and I'm guessing the paperwork is taking them longer than they had anticipated. There are legal reasons why cannot announce a publisher before certain criteria are met, so that may have left them in a rather awkward position. They could be stuck in final preparations to announce a publisher they've been trying to get for a while, but they can't tell the press anything quite yet.

What would you have said if you were them? "Hey, guys! We have signed a publisher, but we're not allowed to tell you who it is, yet." Personally, I'm not sure I could have "spun" such a situation any better than they did.

Of course, another possibility is that they're trying to milk the publicity cow by refusing to divulge which big publisher they've signed. Personally, I think that would be a mistake. If you tell people you're going to announce a publisher within a certain time period, then you should do what you say. Besides, announcing a publisher without announcing which game will be first generates more of a buzz than withholding the publisher's name does..

Anyhow, those of us who have been gaming for a long time already have a very good idea of who the "unnamed publishers" are. Not to worry, we'll still be getting our classic games when the right time comes.
