5 years is a long, long time in the Internet. Let's go down the memory lane!

The beginning of a new year is a good time to stop for a moment and take look back on your past. You take note of your accomplishments, try to learn from your mistakes, and you get all nostalgic about the days gone by. You know we're big on nostalgia, right? With 5 very successful years in the digital gaming market, we thought we'd chat about the company's history a little. We invite you to join CD Projekt's Marcin Iwiński, Guillaume Rambourg, our Managing Director, and Piotr Karwowski, our Creative Director (both of them core members of the GOG.com team who were with us for years), as they talk about the company's history, the concept behind it, and the best (and one not very good) ideas in our history.

Thanks for being with us, dear users, and for making GOG.com the awesome place that it is! Tell us, please--what is your favorite moment in GOG.com history?

Or maybe you would like to become a part of it? Check out our GOG.com/Work page--we may happen to have an opening for a position you'd be perfect for.

Favourite moment? Insomia sale!!! :p

Thank you GOG for everything.
My favorite moment was finding a place that sold the entire Ultima series.

peixoto: Could you tell us at least what game(s) caused trouble on which OS?
The Witcher, uninstalling it removes all keys in "SOFTWARE\CD Projekt Red", screwing up The Witcher 2. Legend of Grimrock adding a crappy and non-functional entry at Games Explorer on Win 8.1.

The ones that are most fresh in memory. I remember many games several months ago deleting the CompatAppFlags keys, screwing up any custom compatibility settings that you may have created. Or games not deleting the saved games after uninstallation even though you've specifically told them to do that. Or The Witcher not installing DirectX on install even though the game clearly needs it.

... among other things.
As a jaded, DRM-loathing console gamer, having GOG in my life for the past few months is one big favourite moment. :)

One of the crowning moments, though, was installing the GOG version of the Quest for Glory series. For over a decade, each time I wanted to replay those games, I braced myself for hours of installation woes. When I launched GOG's version of Shadows of Darkness, I almost cried with joy: it ran smoothly right after the installation, on Windows 8 no less! I once pulled an all-nighter trying to make that game run properly on XP, so I was really happy. ^^

So thank you very much, GOG! Merci beaucoup! Большое спасибо! Danke vielmals! :)

Trolling this place is always fun. :p
Congrats on five years and here's to many more.

I got into point and click adventures and went to all the websites and learned what classics I needed to play. The problem was it was hard to find the classics. I was told about GOG and was amazed that I had found a place where I could get the classics and I could play them on my system.

When I joined the community I was blown away by the helpfulness, knowledge and generosity of the group. I have had great laughs, heard music I would never have heard, learned about new adventure games, etc.

Thanks for everything! Keep up the great work.
Thanks for a great service, GOG!

Now how about some releases eh???
And thank you GOG for all the good times :3 Thank you for Blood, for Shadow Warrior, for Giana Sisters. for Trine. and for Crusader No Remorse.

I'm pretty sure it's the manner in which you post your "criticism".

but I was a very big supporter of GOG during the first few years. So much money have been thrown at this service over the years. I don't know what you are doing in your offices with all that money, but there are 0 excuses for not doing a perfect job anymore.

And sadly this looks like where that manner stems from. Is it also the reason you don't just stay away though you're disappointed beyond remedy from GOG?

My favourite moment? I have plenty of enjoyable everyday moments - news & announcements, blue text posts in the forum, new releases, gem promos, weekend promos, creative sales, it all adds up.

My favourite aspect goes beyond a moment and that's your commitment to DRM-free, because if the world would be full of DRM, it'd be a lot worse than just "boring", you hear that Guillaume?

Thanks for the enjoyable ride so far and here's to five more years and beyond :-)
I only joined last year since I bought most of my games through Steam. At first I thought I would only buy the game I love the most and couldn't run on Windows 7: Planescape Torment.

That opened the flood gates. Suddenly I found myself checking the catalog and seing names I had forgotten after all these years and some I didn't play back when I was younger and decided to try them now. Then I started checking if newly released games would also appear on GoG as I would rather buy it here and that's when I realized I was hooked.
And let's not forget the community which is one of the most mature, friendly and polite I've seen in recent memory.

So Kudos to GoG and all GoGers! Keep up the good work!

Pretty sure that if we know you're trolling and you know you're trolling, then you have absolutely zero things to complain about when you get downrepped for doing so. I dare say that that seems to be a case for the rep system working perfectly to counteract a troll.

My favorite moment on GOG was the sign up and realizing just how many games from my past were here! I was quite literally the fat kid in a candy shop. Thanks for 5 years of awesome entertainment, guys. Here's to many more!

No , gog, thank YOU !
I have to say when I found out they released the Tex Murphy games here. Growing up I was ill a lot and because of such I spent a lot of time between home and the hospital. One day, while I was home sick due to health problems, my father brought home our computer (recently upgraded and a CD-ROM installed) and a game for me, it was Day of the Tentacle and I fell absolutely in love with the game, the story, the gameplay, the puzzle solving.

Well some time later that year my parents saw how much I enjoyed the game and went to the mall to pick up some things from the computer shoppe. Well the owner of the shop (and friend of my father) asked how I enjoyed DoTT and suggested this new fangled game called Under a Killing Moon (I previously played the first two TM games but I didn't have a chance to own either), and knowing my love of the Pink Panther/Sherlock Holmes/etc... picked it up. I loved the game so much that I played it repeatedly and had such a wonderful experience. It broke my heart a little when I wasn't able to buy any of the other games that came later here. I was lucky enough to play Pandora Directive (a friend's copy) but never able to own it.

Fast forward to some years later, I stumble across GOG.com and to my amazement they didn't just have Pandora Directive, but they had all 5 (soon to be 6) Tex Murphy games. I quickly bought all of them up and have kept them near my computer at all times for reinstall over the years. Thank you GOG for bringing some of my most cherished childhood games, and I look forward to seeing many more of them and titles I never got to play growing up. :)

TL;DR I LURVED YOU GOGz, I LURVED YOU GOGz!!! (ref: GIR impression from Invader Zim, and YES I can do the voice. >.>)

Thank you for being awesome. Now go get a deal with Disney, so we can all enjoy Grim Fandango one more time!
I'm quite new here but my favourite moment was when I discovered Gog and all the awesome games on here.
