5 years is a long, long time in the Internet. Let's go down the memory lane!

The beginning of a new year is a good time to stop for a moment and take look back on your past. You take note of your accomplishments, try to learn from your mistakes, and you get all nostalgic about the days gone by. You know we're big on nostalgia, right? With 5 very successful years in the digital gaming market, we thought we'd chat about the company's history a little. We invite you to join CD Projekt's Marcin Iwiński, Guillaume Rambourg, our Managing Director, and Piotr Karwowski, our Creative Director (both of them core members of the GOG.com team who were with us for years), as they talk about the company's history, the concept behind it, and the best (and one not very good) ideas in our history.

Thanks for being with us, dear users, and for making GOG.com the awesome place that it is! Tell us, please--what is your favorite moment in GOG.com history?

Or maybe you would like to become a part of it? Check out our GOG.com/Work page--we may happen to have an opening for a position you'd be perfect for.

I liked the monk apology videos you did.
Many more years and games to go.
Definitely don't close the site, but the monks were funny. Bringing them back for something (positive) would be cool.
Amiga games and no DRM? Someone at GOG wants to get back to his roots.;P Nice cracktros please.

Many more years, GOG!
I liked when Wizardry 6, 7 and 8 were put up.

A year ago I wasn't really considering downloadable titles, since I always wanted a boxed copy. Then I bought a game I already own on GOG, since I wanted to play the english version (the German translation is often terrible). When I wanted to play another game I looked at my stacks of cds and dvds, then I said to myself, well I could go search for an hour or two and then look for patches online and a crack to stop switching cds... or I could just buy the game for less money than a pizza and download it. So GOG got another deal. And it went on... some classics, some deals, some indies, now I'm closing in on a hundred games in my account in less than a year.
In the years from 1995 to 2004 I spend my entire money on video games, from 2004 to 2012 I bought less than 10 games, I just wasn't buying into the DRM crap. Especially always-online was a killer. What good is an always online game on a laptop in a train? Even switching CDs is a pain then. I really learned to appreciate the DRM-free-full-patched service of GOG and the fact that I can always redownload the games. It's so good when you are travelling. Now GOG has become the only platform where I buy games.

Interestingly, the way GOG works makes piracy laughable. With the regular sales it's possible to buy nearly every game for less than 4€. I can't even get a meal at McDonalds for 4€. I can't imagine why anyone would go through the efforts and risks for the sake of people who won't even spend that little money for a full-patched-and-cracked *legal* copy.

What I wish for the future is soundtrack DLCs. There are games where the soundtrack is free and then there are games where they want to sell the soundtrack seperately and sadly it's not availible on GOG. Id love to get the soundtrack of VVVVVV or Sang-Froid on my GOG account.

Arteveld: Amiga games
Shame the deal didn't work out. Maybe in the future we'll see some Amiga titles.

I own 158 games from the GOG catalog. Most of these games, I have yet to have the time to play, and some of them I will probably never play, yet I continue to buy them, and I have been asked from time to time why I would do that. The answer is simple. It feels good. When I buy from GOG I know I am not just buying a game or the sweet content that comes with it, I am not just getting a deal or rekindling a nostalgic childhood experience, but I am supporting the battle against DRM on a global scale. I am certain I am not the biggest customer or spender here, but because of the values that GOG is founded upon, I am one of the most loyal. People complain about this or that or how things could be better, and some of that has merit from time to time, but one thing is certain: as long as the battle against DRM is waged by GOG, I will be right there, buying games I may or may not even play, simply to help this idea succeed.
Happy Birthday GOG:)I wish you many more happy years.
My favourite moment was when I found Lords of Magic in your catalogue. I totally forgot about this game's excistence. And i bought it and played it like crazy. Lately I got back to it again, and it was still very cool game (little meh in the late-game).

Thanks for releasing the classic games :-)

Elenarie: Trolling this place is always fun. :p
Even on 4chan that attitude wouldn't get a pass. It's "look how stupid I am! look at me! and then... LOL I WAS ONLY TROLLING GUISE I AM SO MASTER TROLL! EPIC LEL"

it's pathetic. Attached picture to make it more clear for you how you look like.

My favorite gog.com moments? Realizing digital downloads can be done right, seeing how affordable it is, and the Mac catalogue, which continues to grow. Also, the FOUR free games I snagged - Torchlight and the Fallout games. Please keep doing what you do :)

Most favorite moment: The arrival of Baldurs Gate and others right after the shutdown. Marked the beginning of a really good time.

Most unfavorite moment: The hint that you might have another big publisher close to signing and then... nothing, big disappointment. It's not terribly bad though but could mean the ending of a really good time.

However I wish GOG all the best for the same or even better growing in the next 5 years. Keep on realizing your dreams.
