Strijkbout: What I do not like are posts like Steam is da ultimate and GOG is shit and if GOG could only be more assimilated by the Steam because they're going to take over the world and if you don't agree you are all silly and irritating and wrong.
SV is merely being realistic. He doesn't confuse what he wants the world to be like with what it actually IS like at the moment. Steam is pretty big, to put it mildly. It's the biggest. People could spend their entire PC gaming lives on Steam and not hear of a world outside of it... That's what might have been the case with OP.
Sure - GOG, as far as I know, currently counts as second place. The phrase "Steam and GOG" gets thrown around, mostly on Kickstarter, to denote major digital PC retailers. We're important, but not at the very top. There is still a long way to go, and we need to be aware of this fact.
tl;dr - Leave the guy alone. He's smart, and he's on our side.

Exactly, so what's the point in rubbing it in my face?
And I don't know about being realistic, this whole digitalmediadistribution will still grow a lot, Steam may be big now but in 10 years time it could be completely different, maybe Amazon is the biggest or maybe Desura or one we haven't even heard of yet, but it doesn't matter as long as there are more to choose from.
And no, once GOG starts selling Steam keys only to have AAA titles like those other retailers, assimilation will be complete and they might as well disband themselves.

I honestly think you're pointing the stick at the wrong person. Velvet can be accused of a lot of things - excessively nihilistic and defeatist when it comes to PC gaming among them - but he is far from a Steam fanboy, and is certainly one of the most down-to-earth and realistic members of this forum.

That's his problem. Whenever he posts something I feel like an immature deluded idiot.

Well I mean to say I feel like more of an immature deluded idiot than I normally do.

Well he got me then.
Though I somtimes go to forums where people really believe these sort of things they post.

He's nothing of the sort, he has claimed Skyrim to be better than Morrowind, when we all know for a fact that Oblivion is better than Morrowind!

Oblivion is great until those pyre things show up.

Oh, AND THERE'S TOO MANY FUCKING MINES! There is no way they could build anything on the surface because the underground has obviously been totally hollowed out!

Skyrim better than Morrowind? I said no such thing, sir! Morrowind has my nostalgia nuts in a convenient sack of control.

All right, fine, then you claimed Human Revolution is better than the original Deus Ex. You just said something absolutely terrible and earth-shattering and I will never forget that! ... Well except that I did.

PowerBlood: I just bought a collection of games Legacy of Kain. But I thought I would receive keys for steam. (Sorry for bad english)
GOG is DRM-free. Steam/Origin/Uplay = DRMs. You buy on GOG when you want a game not attached to any services or online connections to play. It is a much better policy once you understand what it is and *why* it is.

For Steam copies of games, you can find codes on stores like Nuuvem for Brazil. and look on the store page for "Requires Steam account to activate." But again, GOG has better policies and support. Especially for older titles. So feel free to stick around and see what it's about. :)

No on that one too, I'm afraid (though I am addicted to Human Revolution's awesome silenced pistol death machine).

Maybe we can save time and I'll call your mother something terrible.
GOG is not affiliated with Steam in any way, they sell their own games, with no Steam key whatsoever. Once you buy a game on GOG, you get the standalone GOG installer, which allows you to save a backup of it and install the game in any machine you own.

I understand that, given the huge expression and influence Steam has in the video game market, it's hard to wrap our heads around the fact PC gaming does not equal Steam, but it's true. When you buy a game on Steam, you don't get a GOG key (unless that game's developer/publisher allows it, but it's always the dev/publisher choice, not Steam's, and as far as I know it doesn't happen that often), when you buy a game on GOG, you don't get a Steam key.

I don't think you were trying to troll the forums, it was an honest question you were asking, but one that could be avoided with just a bit of quick research/googling. In all fairness, as a proud member of the GOG community, I say you're better off with GOG than with Steam. More goodies, great community, unmatched support and dedication to the user base, an amazing ever-growing catalog of classic oldies, modern innovative indies and some AAA titles, to please all tastes, and everything fully DRM-free, something you can't find anywhere else in the digital video game market.

Lastly, I'd like to say I'm a fairly new user and I was never offended or mistreated -- the only two or three times that happened I'm completely aware I brought it on myself -- and I don't think you were being ridiculed or mistreated in any way; you asked a question that sounded stupid for most of the community, and some people may not have been as polite as you'd expect them to be, but I didn't see any poster offend you in any way.

You say you have some trouble with English, so, if you care to discuss this further in Portuguese, feel free to send me a PM, I'll try to explain things to you as best I can, within the limits of my knowledge of DRM and digital stores.

Happy gaming! (You have bought four awesome games that should keep you busy for a while, enjoy them!) :)

This is a very pleasant forum unless you bring up Steam in some way. Avoid that and you're gold.

So this one time, I rode my steam engine to my steam bath where I ate a large dish of steamed fish, rice and carrots. Then I rode my steam engine back into Steamtown to visit their mall and purchased a new Steam board game. My friends and I played Steam all night, listening to Steam and watching the movie Steam while discussing the intricacies of serial time-encoded amplified microscopy. Then I played Fallout on Steam.

My brain has informed me that "steam" is no longer a word.
