Anachronox, Psychonauts, Thief 1/2, Master of Magic, Syndicate, Planescape: Torment, Total Annihilation, Baldur's Gate II, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights Diamond, Deus Ex: GOTY, Fallout 1/2, Unreal, Blood and Sacrifice are pretty much must-buys. Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Screamer, Guilty Gear X2, and Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers are good if you want a well-rounded collection.

No matter what you decide to spend your life savings on though, you really can't lose unless you get some real turkeys like Empire Earth 3 and Master of Orion 3, or some controversial games like Interstate '76* and Dungeon Keeper 2.

*There's widespread complaints about I76 and persistent bugginess/compatibility issues, but FWIW, I76 works like a charm for me with nGlide on WINE running on Mac OS X.

Licurg: EDIT: Forgot Planescape Torment. Shame on me:)
And the Icewind Dale series, and Neverwinter Nights (although Rampancy just mentioned those), and The Witcher, and Nox, and Arcanum, and Temple of Elemental Evil (with the Co8 mod), and Divine Divinity, and the Ultima games.

For shame, indeed.

just joking. :P

Don't forget Heroes of Might and Magic III with the Heroes3HD mod, Crusader No Regret/No Remorse, Duke Nukem 3D with eDuke32 and the Polymer HRP, MDK 1/2, Wing Commander 1-4...

escapist23: eh eh, Rampancy might have been right.....just checked out Sacrifice and found it quite impressive for the graphics considering how old it is....also in-game soundtrack, all for 6 bucks....and of course gotta check out Blood now

;)

Licurg: These are the best games on Gog:

-Sacrifice
-Heroes of Might and Magic 3
-Heroes of Might and Magic 2
-Fallout 1&2
-Baldur's Gate series
-Unreal Gold
-Zeus Bundle
-Soul Reaver
-Sanitarium
-Sacred
-Sanitarium
-Legends of Grimrock
-Postal 2
-Far Cry
-Earthworm Jim 1+2
-Disciples: Sacred Lands
-Empire Earth 1&2(stay away from the 3rd one, it sucks)
-Hitman 2
-Psychonauts
-Beneath a Steel Sky
-Desperados

I may have missed a few...

EDIT: Forgot Planescape Torment. Shame on me:)
Adding on (and probably repeating everyone else): Thief series (Thief 2 is the best and 3 the worst, but they're all great. I recommend getting Thief 2 immediately), Icewind Dale series, Psychonauts, Arcanum: Of Magick and Steamworks Obscura, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Deus Ex GOTY, Neverwinter Nights.

In any case, welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy your stay. :)

EDIT: Oh, Disciples 2 is also quite good.

Don't waste your money on Blood 2, it's crap and seems to have more trouble than pretty much any other game.

Blood OTOH runs just fine if that's your cup of tea.

Roman5: Welcome to GOG

whatever you do, get BLOOD
Is there a mod to make it a little more playable?
Guys, i just wanted to give him a short, must buy list. Stop giving so many titles, the poor guy will shoot himself:P

I really wanted to like Blood 2, especially after having had such a good time playing Shogo. Sadly, Blood 2 wasn't just a mediocre shooter; it was a mediocre shooter trying to be funny, which just wasn't funny. (The game lost me when they started putting Gabe Newell/Valve jokes in the game.)

Anyway, I hear tell that Blood works at its best when run with nGlide in addition to a build of DOSBox which has 3Dfx support.

Don't worry about that. He'll have spent so much money on games that won't even be able to afford bullets, let alone a gun.

escapist23: never heard of it, I'll check it out

Wishbone: That's a second vote for Sacrifice from me. Truly a hidden gem. And if you feel like laughing your ass off playing something just as original and creative, get Giants: Citizen Kabuto.
Both Sacrifice and Giants are must plays. Wait until you cast your wizard's top level spell for the first time in Sacrifice...:)

That's one game I probably shouldn't have bought. Frankly, I still can't see why people recommend it so highly. Its humor is very low-brow and quite immature. Regarding the gameplay, once the pseudo RTS elements kicked in I really didn't have any fun with this game. *shrug*

Only wants to buy "four or five RPGs"... oh, new users are so cute. Thinking they'll only get a game here or there. That they can "manage their backlog." They can totally stop after this purchase. Just "one more weekend sale," they swear.

Welcome to GOG. It's all downhill (yet glorious) from here. The days of not having anything to play, and being caught up on gaming, are a thing of the best. Get comfy. :P

Yeah, i remember the first time i used Tornado:)) I didn't cast it far enough if you know what i mean=))
If I could just interrupt here: OP, welcome to the forums. You may notice some of the moderators (or forum management, however you would like to refer to them) on here do not appreciate cursing in the thread titles, so next time, if you could, replace strategic letters in the curse words. For instance, changing "fuck" to "fsck" seems rather popular, so in the same vain, you could change "ass" to "sss". Or, if you'd prefer, you could replace the "s" in "ass" with just a different "s", going from "ass" to "ass".

tfishell: ...going from "ass" to "ass".
Now there's a proper welcome. =D
