It's official! GOG.com supports Mac OS X.

We're bringing a part of our massive catalog of all-time classics to Mac, starting with an impressive 50 titles for Mac gamers to play and enjoy. 28 of the 50 titles, the best games in history, including , [url=https://secure.gog.com/en/gamecard/ultima_456]Ultima series, or Wing Commander, will be playable on the Mac OS X for the first time ever--exclusively on GOG.com. The complete line-up reflects the diversity of available games unmatched by other distributors: classics like Simcity 2000, Crusader: No Remorse, Little Big Adventure, Theme Hospital mix with Anomaly Warzone Earth, Tiny & Big: Grandpa’s Leftovers, , and [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_witcher_2]The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Speaking of monster-hunter Geralt and The Witcher 2, the Enhanced Edition of this award-winning mature fantasy RPG was released on Mac just today and is available on GOG.com with a 25% discount (that's only $22.24) for the next 48 hours.

Weeklong Promo: Mac & PC Essentials
We have also prepared a set of specially selected games from various genres that will be available 50% off for the next week: The Witcher Enhanced Edition, Crusader: No Remorse, Theme Hospital, Little Big Adventure, Postal Classic and Uncut, and Simcity 2000 are all available for 50% off--that's as little as $2.99 for unforgettable classics. This promo ends Thursday, October 25 at 6:15 PM GMT. However, The Witcher Enhanced Edition will be available for 50% off only until Saturday, October 20 at 6:45 PM GMT.

Remember, the 50 is just the beginning--we promise to release more amazing games on Mac in the near future. What titles? To find out and play even more best games in history check our website regularly, become a fan on , follow us on [url=https://twitter.com/GOGcom]Twitter, or give us a nice +1 in Google+.
I would've preferred to hear "GOG goes multilingual" as the english version of the game is not always the best one or the one the devs made the game in.

But hey, I guess that's cool for Mac users. Now they can be hipsters AND play good old games :P !

SimonG: Notice how there is no mention of DRM free on the news post.
I'm confident that this stance will never change. GOG know that a large proportion of their most fervent supporters are customers purely on account of the DRM policy, and so if they ever relaxed that stance, the backlash would be awful.

Fortunately they have made it clear on numerous occasions that they are every bit as fervent about the DRM-free policy as their fans are, so I don't believe this would ever be on the cards in any case.

As I understand it, they have fought long and hard (and no doubt continue to do so) to win over publishers who have been resistant to the DRM-free policy, when it would surely have been so much easier to give in.

GOG aren't going to go through all of that, and then just throw it all away. I am quite certain that GOG will always be DRM-free, and that any concerns to the contrary are nothing more than needless worry.

claudiu.oroian: Wow. Just Wow. Now that is a smart move right there.Yeah, let's spend money and resources on (puts on glasses and magnifying glass ) 6% marketshare Apple has. You guys should concentrate your resources on things that matter like bringing on a lot of requested GOOD OLD GAMES to GOG that are nowhere to be found . Where is SWAT 4 , Dune 2 (yes it could be run on windows 7) etc etc ? But yeah , let's invest time in supporting those 6% of hipsters from which perhaps only 3-4 % are interested in games (and i'm beeing very generous ) What can i say , a smart move is a smart move.

1UP: umadbro? First off, even if the total number of Mac OS X users was 5% of all desktop computers, it'd still be millions of potential customers. Basic maths, learn2percentage. If you want to pick at it, these statistics are either derived from browser usage - which won't be able to differentiate pirated OS'es, that is the vast majority of Windows installations worldwide (how many people do you think actually pirate OS X, let alone have non-Macs that can run it?) - or licenses sold, which will include OEMs and corporate sales. In any case, the total number of Macs in use has been increasing for the past few years while PC sales had been stagnating, and even a few % translates to millions of people. Next, 70% or so of all computers sold for over $1000 also happen to be Macs. Check out the statistics for things like the Humble Indie Bundles; Mac owners generally pay more than Windows scrubs. So, it's a richer demographic. There's mucho money to made by catering to the Mac world; ask Blizzard, Valve and all the other devs that offer OS X versions for their games. Finally, if you really wanted SWAT 4 and Dune 2 shouldn't you go petition for those elsewhere on this site instead of raging over people getting to enjoy their favorite games on their preferred platform? Haters gonna hate. <3
First of all , i do no care about what OS you are using. All i care is about priorities. GoG apparently does not have one. There are numerous requests for games that should be on GoG (Grim Fandago ,Swat4 ,Dune 2 ,etc) but we're talking do a deaf horse.

Your elitist apple talk however does not impress me mainly because it's simple apple propraganda (they are good at something, i give you that). 70% of bought >1000$ machines are mac's? Yeah , they wish. Pc users HAVE THE CHOICE of building powerfull PC machines all by themselfs much cheaper than Dell , Alienware , HP offerings so they do not add to stats , do they? Too bad as they are the majority (including myself)
With windows offerin a much wider hardware support i just don't know why are you just trying to bring this discussion up front.

The whole "mac users pay more" argument is again apple bullshit talk. Perhaps if you'll have the numbers of apps and games windows is currently having (you know diversity) you wouldn't pay that "much more".

It's easy to see why Gog's move it;s not a really smart move. Mac's are not meant for gaming. Let's see some Steam stats :

Windows 7 64 bit
59.70%
+3.02%

Windows 7
14.20%
-0.10%

Windows 8 64 bit
1.14%
+0.89%

MacOS 10.7.4 64 bit
0.87%
-0.59%

MacOS 10.6.8 64 bit
0.78%
-0.41%

MacOS 10.8.1 64 bit
0.76%
+0.56%

MacOS 10.8.2 64 bit
0.30%
+0.30%

Windows 8
0.16%
+0.16%

MacOS 10.8.0 64 bit
0.15%
-1.11%

qed
I find the whole debate over Macs vs. PC rather pointless. In the end, somebody who buys a Mac gets exactly what he deserves.

pH7: Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, the "source link" on wikipedia was no longer valid,
tech.fortune.cnn.com/2008/05/19/report-apples-market-share-of-pcs-over-1000-hits-66/

and the contribution stats for the Pay-What-You-Want Humble Bundle :)

To all the Negative Nancies in this thread:

If you don't own a Mac, why are you posting in here anyway?

No seriously, just what exactly, are you so butthurt about that you keep coming back to a thread which has no relevance to you, just to pick fights with people you don't even know?

If GOG's announcement included an statement that said "NO MOAR WINBLOWZ GAEM" then your pitiful bawwing would've been justified. If you have other grievances, take them the fuck to another thread (or fill out this form) instead of being a miserable downer on people who're happy about their platform getting supported.

Some people just need something to bitch and moan about or they just can't get through the day, can they? (⁊_⁊)

I guess it comes from being trapped in a life of poverty.

You know, one time I saved up enough money to buy a Macbook Pro. So instead, I bought a car and a superior PC.

Wait a minute, you have to install drivers? We've been doing that shit without drivers since... well, since we've had two button mice/mouses. I feel sorry for you.

"Mice/mouses?" You should try an OS with universal spell-checking that works in every textbox so you don't have to guess at basic words.

Or, y'know, go back and get a better education. That could solve the moneh problem too.

Are you making fun of me because I'm poor, or are you just being a retard? I'm guessing it's a little bit of both. I used both words because I like to call them mouses, and some other people do too. You might think I have a problem with you because you use Macs. It's not that. There are other Mac users on here who are fine with coexisting with PC users. You're not one of them. You're some fuckwit who thinks their superior to us because you paid an assload of money for a computer specifically made for people who don't know how to use computers. You're acting like a Nazi and it' s enormously annoying. I don't want you to stop using Macs. I just want you to shut the fuck up. A lot of other people on here want you to shut the fuck up too. So, just shut the fuck up. M'kay?

EDIT: In a language you can understand.

1UP make stupid comment. 1UP look like cocksniffing douchebag. People tell 1UP no talky no more. 1UP no talky. 1UP no longer look like cocksniffing douchebag.
