This is a load of BS. You are using the work of open source developers who have made this possible long ago.

It's fantastic that even though I bought the PC edition of the The Witcher, I now have access to the Mac version at no extra cost. I know it's a port via a Wine wrapper, but that's how I played the PC version until now anyway and this version seems to have some tweaks to make it run better (no more random puppeteer lines, working energy bar). Thanks!

*facepalm* Umm. The same applies to any DOSBox/ScummVM-based games available for Windows, you know. They're charging for the games, not the implementation they used to get them to you.

Thank you so much GoG!

Even if some people are being negative, this is great for those of us that do use Mac!

I know that. The false advertizing that they are doing in the original post should be removed.

xyem: If you used other systems and chose Mac because it is better for you, great. That is exactly how it should work (use whatever is best for you). I think most people dislike Mac users because they don't choose it because it is better, but because it is "cool". Or at least, this is the kind of Mac user they are exposed to the most. Perhaps those that choose Mac for actual reasons are just quiet about it while those who pick it for being cool like to trumpet the fact, which would explain the stereotype.
I have never ever met someone who uses Mac because it's "cool". However, you only need to look in this thread (and some Engadget discussions) to realize how many people only hate Mac (and iOS) because it's "cool" to do so. No Linux user ever feels superior to other platform users. Oh no, that never happens.

Personally I use it because it lets me choose my platform for the task at hand, VMs for Windows work, excellent (and cheap) web dev on Mac, and the workflow is so speedy for me. Anything else is a compromise.

xyem: But catering to the Linux users who are already here would be "Customer love". We're the ones who have helped make GOG profitable enough to add a new OS.. Mac users (who aren't here) get a years worth of development time.
I AM here though. Evidently I've been here longer than you have... I'm sure I've been using Linux longer than you have too. But when I game, I game on Mac, not Linux. The experience is significantly better for me. I know only too well how to "apt-add-repository 'http://transient.hacker.geocities.com/distro' && apt-get install libfoobar-2.x libpy-needle-nardle-noo-++" and then tweak for 15 minutes before a game will run. I kinda prefer drag & click these days. Does that make me "cooler"?

There were still well over a thousand votes for Mac versions of games, so don't pretend that people already here don't care about Mac.

Unfortunately, the stereotype is well-deserved, but only to some degree. There are a lot of other Mac users who've chosen what they've chosen for totally fine reasons. So I actually do empathize with people who are annoyed at elitist and arrogant Mac users who, as I said earlier, still think like it's 1995 and act like they're somehow above everyone else because of the platform they've chosen.

Sadly, the reverse is also true as well, and it's why I actually am kind of sad that GOG has explicitly decided to support the Mac; I've already started to see an upsurge in negativity on the forums with flamewars over Windows vs. Linux vs. Mac. Oh well. Haters gonna hate, etc.

It will pass. We'll get the occasional threads about it from the usual suspects, just like we are getting the occasional threads about GOG not releasing enough old games / games of the poster's favorite genre / etc. now. I don't know ... I don't want to sound arrogant, but for me, those threads have faded into background noise pretty quickly. The arguments are repetitive, and the sense of entitlement (or at least the expectation that GOG focuses exclusively on the preferences of those users while ignoring others) disqualifies the discussion from the get-go.

Agreed.

rampancy: Let it be said I'm wiling to campaign just as hard for Linux compatibility as the other Linux users on GOG.
Me too. In fact, I'll do 100% more than I did for Mac support by actually bothering to vote for Linux on the wish list. Even though I use a Mac exclusively, I take comfort in having options and I consider cross-platform compatibility when I make a purchase.

I can see what you mean, but these games have been only playable on OS X in a strictly unofficial and unsupported capacity, either through WINE, VMs, or DOSBox and community/open source ports, through roundabout shenanigans and trickery with the installer files. In terms of official support, this is the first time that these games have really been available on OS X.

I realize this, given what happened earlier with events like the Empire Earth and Fallout giveaways, but still, it's nice to hear it from someone else.

Personally I'm glad to see the Mac support AND hope to see more multi-platform support of whatever kind in the future. I love GOG.com and have been sad to have had to buy indie bundles elsewhere because I only own Macs and the GOG.com versions of those games/bundles only supported PC.

Thanks GOG!
The more the merrier, I don't use macs but nice to see them support them.

Now for the next step, c'mon gog you know you want him. Plus Macs and Linux are cousins to each other

So does this mean we can get Good Old Mac Games like , Cythera, and Escape Velocity? :3
Fantastic! I already owned Crusader: No Remorse here on GOG (I play GOG games via BootCamp on my MacBook Pro). Now I can redownload it for Mac and don't need to boot into Windows!

My requests for future Mac ports:

Crusader: No Regret, Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics, and Unreal, Unreal Tournament, and Unreal 2.
