If you preordered Botanicula on GOG.com or have been paying attention to this quirky adventure game, you very probably heard all of the noise around the Humble Botanicula Debut and how some users were left rather unhappy about paying $8.99 for a preorder of the game while people who bought it on day one could pay whatever they wanted for it and they got more goodies than the GOG.com preorder provided.

This left an unsurprisingly sour taste in some gamers’ mouths, and we were just as surprised by the launch of the Humble Botanicula Debut as anyone else was. As soon as we saw the bundle, we reached out to the guys at Amanita about providing our users with something in return for their preorders; we got them to agree to give us a number of goodies from the bundle, and we’re giving you and every other user who bought the game before 12:00 GMT on the 20th of April will receive a few things. Everyone who bought Botanicula before we published this news will automatically be getting Machinarium to your shelf on Monday, and we’ll be emailing all of those purchasers with links where they can download the full soundtrack and a special artbook of Botanicula designs and character sketches.

Finally, we wanted to give you guys something that you couldn’t get in the Humble Bundle to make sure that you didn’t feel like you got a raw deal. To that end, courtesy of our fine friends at CDP RED, we’re happy to let you know that we’re also giving you and everyone else who already bought Botanicula a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut! This game will also be on your shelf on Monday, so look for it then.

At GOG.com, we’ll never knowingly disappoint you, and while this preorder mishap may have made you a little unhappy, we hope that you enjoy Botanicula--it’s a fantastic game and many of us here at the office are fans--and, if you’d like to say “thanks!” to our pals at CDP RED, check out The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, available right now at your favorite DRM-free game store, GOG.com.

Have a great weekend!

Crap. I knew I should have pre-ordered. Oh well, maybe next time.
Well, appears I was right yesterday and GOG wizards magically turn a problematic situation around once again! Good job, gentlemen!
Also I hope this will leave all pre-orderers happy with the deal they got. :)

Rodzaju: I bought the game as a gift for someone else.
Who gets these extra goodies, me or my friend?
I am interested in getting the free Machinarium, but would want to pass on the Botanicula goodies to my friend.
I also have no use for the free Witcher, as I already have it, but I'm not sure if my friend does.
Is this possible?
That's...quite complex. I don't think we have a good way to do it, but ask Support on Monday and they may be able to help you sort things out.

sevenbartenders: This always seems to happen to me, I buy a game on GOG and two days later is the chance to get it for less or free. I just bought the Witcher 1 for 50% off and now I could have gotten it for pre-ordering botanicula. Oh well, nice bonus for those of us who haven't bought it yet.

TheEnigmaticT: I would point out that you got the Witcher: Enhanced Edition for $4.99, and the preorder for Botanicula was $8.99. So you saved money! :)
Those are my feeling exactly. I am not unhappy at all with how the situation has worked out and do not regret my purchases at all. I was only attempting to state( and I think maybe worded it poorly) that I buy games only to find that they go on sale shorty after, or in this case purchased on sale now offered as a bonus due to someone else mistake. However, I do want to thank GOG for the effort to make sure your customers are always well taken care of!
I <3 GOG!
Well played, guys!
Hehe, oh the irony. I just bought The Witcher a couple of days ago and I own three different versions of Machinarium, bought through their own website, two different bundles and a retail-version as well.

Doesn't matter though, I'm just happy that things are working out for both parties and will gladly keep buying games from both GOG and Amarita.
I think it's obvious and the best possible choice. CDP RED is their sister company, and currently they only have Witcher and Witcher 2 here. They can't hand out games from other publisher because it would cost them more expenses. But the main thing is GOG did the best they could do in this situation with limited resource. The Witcher is a great game anyway, with $9 you got three great games + bonus content. That's good enough. If you already own them all, well look at the bigger picture, not just at yourself.
I didn't pre-order the bundle. I just thought I would post to show my respect to GOG for their actions. I may be a critical individual when it comes to pointing out when I think GOG is going wrong (very rarely and usually due to hype which isn't totally their fault). However this is just another example of why GOG is the only electronic retailer I purchase from. I wish they would move into music, movies and T.V. so I could get this sort of service for all my media requirements.

MoP: Kooky is one of their side projects.

bazilisek: The history of the film is a bit more complicated than that; Jakub Dvorský (of Amanita) was basically picked as a replacement for František Skála who was originally designing the film until he and the director had some kind of major argument. Dvorský was a logical choice, since the visual style of both Samorost games is very heavily inspired by Skála's work.

So Amanita doesn't really have anything to do with Kooky; it's just Dvorský who does, and I assume he worked for the film more or less as a contractor. So calling it a "side project" is a bit of a stretch.
That's what they're calling it though ;)
Thanks for the info!

I see the group pic but which one is Fenixp? :D

It's like rain on your wedding day.

I like the irony of offering a dark, violent game full of heaving breasts for what happened with a cutesy game about woodland creatures.
GOG is truly the best. I already own The Witcher: EE and Machinarium, and since I buy games for the games, the goodies don't matter so much. It's just being treated so well and having you guys bend over backwards to do what you can to make up for a messy situation that impresses me so much and makes me wish I could buy all my games here. Even if I do prefer boxes. :)
I think it was the right decision. Not perfect for me, as i already have bought both games, but HIB wasn't interesting too. I'm just glad, that you're trying to be fair with customers.
Didn't buy Botanicula, but I have to congratulate you for the excellent attitude towards the store's clients! Going to hurry up my next purchase here, as thanks :)
Class act, guys. Glad to see you take care of your customers, even if the mess wasn't your fault.
