If you preordered Botanicula on GOG.com or have been paying attention to this quirky adventure game, you very probably heard all of the noise around the Humble Botanicula Debut and how some users were left rather unhappy about paying $8.99 for a preorder of the game while people who bought it on day one could pay whatever they wanted for it and they got more goodies than the GOG.com preorder provided.

This left an unsurprisingly sour taste in some gamers’ mouths, and we were just as surprised by the launch of the Humble Botanicula Debut as anyone else was. As soon as we saw the bundle, we reached out to the guys at Amanita about providing our users with something in return for their preorders; we got them to agree to give us a number of goodies from the bundle, and we’re giving you and every other user who bought the game before 12:00 GMT on the 20th of April will receive a few things. Everyone who bought Botanicula before we published this news will automatically be getting Machinarium to your shelf on Monday, and we’ll be emailing all of those purchasers with links where they can download the full soundtrack and a special artbook of Botanicula designs and character sketches.

Finally, we wanted to give you guys something that you couldn’t get in the Humble Bundle to make sure that you didn’t feel like you got a raw deal. To that end, courtesy of our fine friends at CDP RED, we’re happy to let you know that we’re also giving you and everyone else who already bought Botanicula a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut! This game will also be on your shelf on Monday, so look for it then.

At GOG.com, we’ll never knowingly disappoint you, and while this preorder mishap may have made you a little unhappy, we hope that you enjoy Botanicula--it’s a fantastic game and many of us here at the office are fans--and, if you’d like to say “thanks!” to our pals at CDP RED, check out The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, available right now at your favorite DRM-free game store, GOG.com.

Have a great weekend!

Fantastic support from GOG. An extra work they didn't have to do. I don't have that game but thank you in the name of the community :)
Seriously guys, that's a grade A awesome move right there.

Keep on being awesome. :D

ithilien827: Have GOG said anything about whether we can gift the two extra games (at least if we already own them)?
Personally, I wouldn't ask for a replacement because the whole mess wasn't GOG's fault. Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way criticizing you as you're entitled to some form of compensation. I just think it's Amanita Design who should take the financial toll and not GOG. Being a CDPR subsidiary, the only implication of giving a free copy of TW1 is a loss of the potential sale of this title. When you request an alternative, not only do they lose a (potential) sale, they also have to pay the publisher.

Trustworthy, like we know you.
Thank you gog!
I really wanted this OST, and your generous act spares me the self- dishumhilation of giving only 1$ to the HIB.

Dreadjaws: As I've said before, GOG didn't have to do any of this, but they did it anyway. That's why they'll always be the best.

And while I don't need the extras, I did want to check them out once I got them, but I have a problem with the artbook. Every time I download the zip and try to extract the file I get a "damaged file" error. Is anyone else having this problem?
avatar
JudasIscariot: It might depends on whether you snag the zip via the Downloader and your browser. Did you check whether the MD5 sum is proper?
I just copied the file address to IDM and downloaded it with it. Now it works. I don't see how I could have used the GOG downloader, since the links provided in the e-mail are not to be used with it. Yet every time I downloaded it with Firefox or Chrome I got an error the moment I tried to extract the file. Weird.

Another reason to use Opera.

It depends on what you are saying; With the exception of two indie titles I own the whole catalogue, and even those games I own elsewhere. I obviously do not want compensation for me (alternative titles). What I want is the opportunity to get the same deal as everyone else, and the opportunity to gift the two games to someone else. For GOG it will be the same loss as with everyone else (a potential sale).
GOG, you are the number one primary example on nothing less than perfect customer service! You and CDP Red are what every business should aspire to be! You're just awesome guys! :-)
I've just join the "club" here in GOG.com and see this. Even this doesn't affect me at all I admire your attitude to your customers.

You are fantastic guys!!!
I didn't pre-order this game, but just want to thank you for being so awesome! ^_^
I have never use GOG before but hearing about this and all the other things they have done means GOG will definitely be getting business from me in the future. The only this that annoys me about them is that they put massive cookie on the front page, I am seriously craving right now thanks to that...Mmmmmm...Cookies...Chocolate...Goey...Mmmmmm
This is exactly why Steam will never fully trounce GOG, despite some cynical snobs saying otherwise: customer service. GOG has never lost focus of their service to gamers, always seeking to give them the most bang for their buck in the most convenient ways possible. Way to go, GOG; you've never disappointed me.

bazilisek: The history of the film is a bit more complicated than that; Jakub Dvorský (of Amanita) was basically picked as a replacement for František Skála who was originally designing the film until he and the director had some kind of major argument. Dvorský was a logical choice, since the visual style of both Samorost games is very heavily inspired by Skála's work.

So Amanita doesn't really have anything to do with Kooky; it's just Dvorský who does, and I assume he worked for the film more or less as a contractor. So calling it a "side project" is a bit of a stretch.

MoP: That's what they're calling it though ;)
Thanks for the info!
'Side' is just other word to say the movie is not their own production and 'project' to say they wish it was :-)

+1 to bazilisek for insight
As many already said: I've never seen this kind of customer care anywhere else.
I'm a fan of both the Humble Bundles and GOG, and both are great; even though I didn't preorder Botanicula, I still felt betrayed by Amanita when they did this.
I hope all this has spread enough to attract new customers to GOG, helping reduce the economic loss.
I'll keep recommending GOG now more than ever!

GOG Team: Thanks for being the way every company should be; I hope they learn from you!
Never seen so much care froma company. I'm in awe for you guys of GOG, literally.
