If you preordered Botanicula on GOG.com or have been paying attention to this quirky adventure game, you very probably heard all of the noise around the Humble Botanicula Debut and how some users were left rather unhappy about paying $8.99 for a preorder of the game while people who bought it on day one could pay whatever they wanted for it and they got more goodies than the GOG.com preorder provided.

This left an unsurprisingly sour taste in some gamers’ mouths, and we were just as surprised by the launch of the Humble Botanicula Debut as anyone else was. As soon as we saw the bundle, we reached out to the guys at Amanita about providing our users with something in return for their preorders; we got them to agree to give us a number of goodies from the bundle, and we’re giving you and every other user who bought the game before 12:00 GMT on the 20th of April will receive a few things. Everyone who bought Botanicula before we published this news will automatically be getting Machinarium to your shelf on Monday, and we’ll be emailing all of those purchasers with links where they can download the full soundtrack and a special artbook of Botanicula designs and character sketches.

Finally, we wanted to give you guys something that you couldn’t get in the Humble Bundle to make sure that you didn’t feel like you got a raw deal. To that end, courtesy of our fine friends at CDP RED, we’re happy to let you know that we’re also giving you and everyone else who already bought Botanicula a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut! This game will also be on your shelf on Monday, so look for it then.

At GOG.com, we’ll never knowingly disappoint you, and while this preorder mishap may have made you a little unhappy, we hope that you enjoy Botanicula--it’s a fantastic game and many of us here at the office are fans--and, if you’d like to say “thanks!” to our pals at CDP RED, check out The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, available right now at your favorite DRM-free game store, GOG.com.

Have a great weekend!

Leroux: I think they are genuinely sorry, but for the wrong reasons. They make it sound like their fault was striking a deal with GOG at all.
They do make it sound like that and it's a pity. Not handled very well, that's for sure.
Still not reason enough to call out the mob to burn them alive. Calling for boycott, or buying form HIB for $0.01 just so they raise bandwidth cost (wtf? make it a few bucks and give all to HIB tip or charity) I think it's downright silly.

I completely agree with you. I like the game and I appreciate the work that has gone into it. I admit I took advantage of the bundle for a measly $1 of charity in order to get the soundtrack, but I bought the game full price here at GOG yesterday and I didn't regret it. I will also keep an eye on Amanita's future releases, despite the slightly bitter taste that this affair left in my mouth.
I just sent an email asking why the Machinarium link wasn't working, thinking I didn't qualify to get it. Then I just re-read the email noticing it'll be added on Monday :)

I feel a little selfish and pushy now.

GoG you guys are awesome for doing something that you are not obligated to do but do it for the love of your customers! This is why I recommend all my friends to use them
GOG's apology for something they didn't do is a damned sight classier than Amanita's for what they did do.
You are the best GOG.

Thanks
From what I understand, Machinarium should be added to your GOG.com account automatically.

You didn't need to do this, GOG. But once again you've shown up others by being the ones to do the right thing. Thank you for that.

Incidental19: Another sign that GOG is the only company out there that cares about its users!
Well, not the only company, but they are definitely in a very small minority that go to great lengths to keep customers happy. That said, I buy games from Steam as well, and if GOG had the same library as Steam, I'd drop Steam in a heartbeat. Why would there be a reason to buy from anyone else?

GOG is definitely #1 in my book when it comes to games, due to their non-DRM philosophy, and how they are quick to address and correct any problems that may come up from time to time, in a very friendly and transparent manner, no less. (And this latest move is simply more proof of that.) Go GOG! You deserve every success.

That's not true. My frequent flyer programme loves me for who I am.
Although I own Machinarium and Witcher, this is still very cool for people who don't. GOG doesn't stop to make us happy! Thank you!
Amanita Design can be accused of being a little quixotic and, therefore, a bit careless (there are worse things in the world). Super nice of GOG to do this, though.

Thanks, GOG.

jorlin: I was really surprised that Botanicula made it's debut on hib.
Sure, this has happened before, but with alpha-software.
I will still buy the bundle for Linux playability.
This will make me reconsider buying indie games on GOG as long as GOG sticks to their narrow platform support.
You do realize that this is an adobe air game and adobe has pretty much dropped native linux support for air some versions ago right? If anything GOG is protecting itself from a bunch of support problems.
Well played GoG.
Though I didn't buy the game and despite it sounding like GOG had no idea the indie bundle was going to happen, that's a pretty sweet move on their part. There are few companies that I'm a fanboy of and I think GOG is starting to be added to that list.
A lot of companies, like Bank of America, EA and Activision could learn a lot about customer service by simply keeping a sharp eye on GOG.com.

With this simply gesture, GOG.com has reinforced the strong relationship that it has already built with gamers. I'd recommend them without hesitation to a good friend or enemy .
