If you preordered Botanicula on GOG.com or have been paying attention to this quirky adventure game, you very probably heard all of the noise around the Humble Botanicula Debut and how some users were left rather unhappy about paying $8.99 for a preorder of the game while people who bought it on day one could pay whatever they wanted for it and they got more goodies than the GOG.com preorder provided.

This left an unsurprisingly sour taste in some gamers’ mouths, and we were just as surprised by the launch of the Humble Botanicula Debut as anyone else was. As soon as we saw the bundle, we reached out to the guys at Amanita about providing our users with something in return for their preorders; we got them to agree to give us a number of goodies from the bundle, and we’re giving you and every other user who bought the game before 12:00 GMT on the 20th of April will receive a few things. Everyone who bought Botanicula before we published this news will automatically be getting Machinarium to your shelf on Monday, and we’ll be emailing all of those purchasers with links where they can download the full soundtrack and a special artbook of Botanicula designs and character sketches.

Finally, we wanted to give you guys something that you couldn’t get in the Humble Bundle to make sure that you didn’t feel like you got a raw deal. To that end, courtesy of our fine friends at CDP RED, we’re happy to let you know that we’re also giving you and everyone else who already bought Botanicula a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut! This game will also be on your shelf on Monday, so look for it then.

At GOG.com, we’ll never knowingly disappoint you, and while this preorder mishap may have made you a little unhappy, we hope that you enjoy Botanicula--it’s a fantastic game and many of us here at the office are fans--and, if you’d like to say “thanks!” to our pals at CDP RED, check out The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, available right now at your favorite DRM-free game store, GOG.com.

Have a great weekend!

GOG, you're amazing guys. Really nice move on your part! So far - GOG is number 1 in online distribution! I'm so glad you've decided to sell modern games aswell - soon I won't need to look anywhere else :D

mondo84: Leave it to GOG to clean up another company's mess.

Amanita should be thanking GOG profusely for handling this so well. Have those guys even apologized for this poor tactical behavior?
kinda sorta

Thanks guys! That really worked out.

You've got me on your side.

P.S. Thanks to CD Projekt as well!
I bought it with the humble bundle. I won't have the artbook (wasn't intended before).
If I had bought it on GOG I wouldn't have other extras.
In any case I'll miss something and became hard to choose where to buy.

I still think that GOG should make an agreement with the Humble guys to provide standalone installer for the game they sell like is done for the steam version. It would be good for both of them.
I think about this game, but even Grimrock
I call b.s. on that backhanded apology.

"...we made a mistake and let GOG and GG take preorders." - yea, like it's their fault they lacked the foresight to predict Amanita would pull the rug out from under them

They apologized to the customers, how about apologizing to GG and GOG?
As always, GoG is awesome (but you already knew that).

Keep up the good work.
I was really surprised that Botanicula made it's debut on hib.
Sure, this has happened before, but with alpha-software.
I will still buy the bundle for Linux playability.
This will make me reconsider buying indie games on GOG as long as GOG sticks to their narrow platform support.

I think I'm a coward because I've waited for reviews and bought it only now... I'm a coward so I'm punished :-\
But the devs will receive 1 dollar more from me so I'm still satisfied! :-)

I don't think that's fair.
In my opinion the apology sounds more sincere than what I would have expected from the usual brown nosing PR from other companies. They made a blunder, they apologized.

Not saying that people that pre-ordered shouldn't feel pissed. Just keep it in perspective. The price of the product ($9, it's quite low in general), their history, the company's size (easy to get overwhelmed), their attempt to make amends, all matter I think.

Don't get the pitchforks and torches just yet.

And people... It's GOG *efefes*

Punished only in so far that you don't get the artbook (which is a shame) and would have to pay at least $0.01 more in order to get the soundtrack (and Machinarium if you don't already own it). But on the other hand you're still rewarded with a beautiful game. ;)

I think they are genuinely sorry, but for the wrong reasons. They make it sound like their fault was striking a deal with GOG at all. And it's clear that at the moment they'd prefer getting money from HIB over getting money from GOG. From an indie dev's point of view one could even understand their reasons, but one still has to wonder why these indie devs deal with GOG in the first place, if they'd rather sell their stuff in the Humble Store. That makes it look as if they're just exploiting GOG's popularity and taking advantage of the free advertising.

Wow, this is a wonderfull move by GOG. Even though I wasn't one of the affected people I feel the need to thank you.
Though I don't benefit from this move, I definitely applaud GOG for doing this to "make right" something that wasn't even their fault. This is the reason I love GOG.com so much and continue to stick by it. You can call me a fanboy or whatever; that's a badge I'll wear proudly.

GOG itself is not without the stain of pulling stunts that backfire. *cough* the coming out of beta shutdown *cough* :)
Another sign that GOG is the only company out there that cares about its users!
