Humble use torrents for large files, it will also save gog bandwidth. You will have to log into the tracker with your username/password to be able to download your games.

Seems like a good/cool idea, but somebody needs to point out the downsides.

I kinda like the idea. The only downside is to those that have a data cap. GOG's download speed was pretty bad the last few days, I had to use pcurl to parallelize my Wasteland 2 download as individual downloads have huge swings in speed...

I dont know. Torrents only go fast if there are a lot of seeds offering max bandwidth (if anyone actually uses HB - at times there are ZERO (obviously cant download)or 1 seed = slow downloads. Happens with Groupee torrents as well -- ) . GOG 99.9% of time at least to here ( i have a largish library) always maxed out my connection using the gog downloader. Im not sure torrent tracker would do the same for me.
I really dont want to wait lots of days to download using the tracker vs much quicker constant gogdownloader

I agree. My internet connection isn't very stable, so I can pretty much never use a direct download. The lgogdownloader works fine, but torrents would be a bit more simple.

The beamdog installer (windows only) has integrated bittorrent. It's optional, a simple checkbox on the download screen turns it on and off. Maybe GOG should look into that for galaxy.

I'm more worried about the gog server hosting the Linux games, since it doesn't work with the gog downloader - and apparently does not support resume?.

Tried to download Brütal legend for linux 5 times before i managed to get it. In two of the attempts i only had a few hundred megabytes to go when the download broke. A resume function or gog downloader integration in this case would save me quite a bit of time and spare the remote server.

From what I recall, the CDN servers support resuming, but the server you get is different each time, so you'll have to either use a download manager or check your browser's documentation.

And the download manager clearly stated that the 'remote server did not support resume' when i attempted to.

I have a gut feeling that the Linux software is hosted on a separate server.

Specific link, using a session ID that is valid for a few minutes. After those minutes pass (5? 10?) the link will return a 403. Changing IP address will probably return the same.
Thus the downloader sees the server as not supporting resume.

If you use the https://www.gog.com/downlink/brutal_legend/en3installer1 link, the session ID should be refreshed (assuming Extreme Download Manager can read your browser's cookies), thus it will see the server as supporting resuming.

The lgogdownloader works very well, and supports resuming. Its the only way I can download linux titles.
