reaver894: AHHHH NECRO TOPIC, KILL IT...KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!!
avatar
Wishbone: No, it's still relevant. I too would like to know what's going on. Sadly, we probably won't get an answer, as GOG is likely under legal obligation not to comment on it while the issue is unresolved. Thankfully, I already own the game from here, but I would hate to see that all future GOGers should be deprived of this wonderful game.
I emailed them about the list of missing games and asking for the reasons why and if they were coming back but they never bothered repyling >.<

Stuff: Don't know where y'all are from but . . .round here the plural for "Y'all "is "All Y'all" . . .=)
avatar
TheEnigmaticT: But if "y'all" is short for "you all" (which seems plural to me), then "all y'all" is a plural plural. Does that make it wrap back around to a singular? :P
Well, you by itself can be plural, so, y'all is already a plural plural, all y'all would be a plural plural plural. if the thread is going to be necro'd i must discuss the least important part!

I'm sure people feel this way about all the games, but it's truly a shame that OpFlash got taken down. I was lucky enough to snag a copy but I'm sure there were people who would play it much more than I who never got a chance. It's an important piece of shooter history, and one would hope that it makes another appearance someday.

You itself is only plural because you can't make a second person plural in English. Thus the discussion over "y'all" and "youse".

Well, one can make a second person plural in English, it's just that it happens to be the same word as the second person singular. Kind of like how the plural of deer is deer.

Apples and oranges. It's just a case of one half of a classic T-V distinction dying out (and I'm told something similar is currently happening in Danish for example, except the other way around -- the V form is getting increasingly rare over there). Deer/deer is a whole different kettle of fish. (That sounded weird.)
Was only today that i heard about this game, actually in a topic about RTS games. I quickly Googled Hostile Waters and was very happy to see at the top of the Google list was a GoG topic, i promptly clicked it and clicked the link to the catalog only to find a giant black hole with the words, "Theres nothing here" mocking me in my search of this awesome looking game. Arg, i hope it comes back, really want to get my hands on a great RTS that i somehow missed during my childhood years.

It has Tom Baker voicing the narration...and then the game gets BETTER! Great game and was certainly one of GOG's gems along with Flashpoint.

I can attest to this. My generation doesn't use it at all, and my parents' generation only rarely. Just about the only time it is used these days, is when adressing members of the royal family. I was in a Blockbuster once, renting a movie. I suppose I've been around 26 or so, and the snot-nosed kid behind the counter used the formal form to address me. I immediately felt old and awkward, and told him to please stop doing that.

It's odd how some words just don't feel comfortable when applied to yourself. Like if I'm on the bus, and a small child bumps into me, and the child's mother says something like "Watch where you're going, you just bumped into that man", my first impulse is to look around to see who she's talking about. I'm 33, so by definition I definitely am a man, but the word just doesn't feel right. Not that I have a good alternative, I'd like the word "boy" applied to me even less. I suppose "that guy" is the closest I can get to something I'd like in that situation.

Good game, can be very unforgiving though.

Has a great expansion that starts with you making a mad dash from what will soon become a firing squad and heading across country trying to evade capture. I missed the chance to purchase from GOG so i really hope it makes a return too.

I had a look into what happened to Op Flashpoint - apparently Codemasters and the original Developers had a bun fight about Codemasters releasing a Sequel using the IP that wasn't programmed by the original devs
They have now taken control of the franchise and have re-branded it 'ArmA' it is available from other on-line outlets (seriously found it in more than the 1, most obvious place!)
Hostile waters? If you look around, it's all around you. That's the world for us.
(Y'all="You all" as in "you all have a good old time...."

Smannesman: Well, I can understand immediately taking down the game if it's a legal/license battle.
Waiting a day might tick them off, but posting a message when taking it down (or just after) would be very nice.
avatar
TheEnigmaticT: Yeah, we usually have to take down an item from our catalog fairly promptly when asked. So a quick notice that we're *going* to do so is not practicable. That said, I'll be sure to mention y'all's comments to the team--if we ever have to take down a game again.

DrIstvaan: ...or of experience-taught caution, hmm? :-)

TheEnigmaticT: I can agree that in the great hubbub of GOG's community, it's very easy for us to miss out on something that's been said. Part of my duties as the new PR & marketing guy involves trying to be a little more visible, so I hope I'll be able to answer questions for you guys when they pop up. That said, there are plenty of things that we can't talk about, so the delay on answers may sometimes be longer than you'd like while I wait to hear back from a responsible party.

avatar
Wishbone: You were very good at this in the beginning, but somewhere along the way, it seems to have ceased being a priority. I wish you would make it one again.
avatar
TheEnigmaticT: My new arrival here as marketing and PR guy is for many purposes. Fostering continued and improved community relations are part of that. Hopefully GOG will astound and amaze in 2011--in a good way.

And apologies to SLP2000 whose post I downvoted by accident when clicking on the window behind the pop-up in which one composes a message. I *think* my immediate upvote should nullify any bad rep that accrued from my fumble-fingered click.

As a side note, the lack of a good second person plural pronoun in English vexes me again. (Y'all? Youse guys?) For a language with so many words, it's silly English doesn't have that one.
