Navagon: The whole reason GOG works is because they're selling games that publishers no longer expect to profit from. That's how they get publishers to release them DRM free.
However, indie developers have shown a strong interest in the GOG model and I think that an indie GOG is not completely impossible sometime in the future when they've branched out a bit.

I think publishers also go along for the ride to keep franchises, names, trademarks, etc. alive and in the interest of gamers.
It's also kind of free publicity as they can say that although they're selling games with DRM today, they can or will sell them without it in the future.
As for a GOG indy platform, GOG should get out of beta first to offer kind of a total solution for indy developers.
I'm quite sure that if GOG has planned something like this within the next year, they're already talking to indy developers.
Since CDP is a small company, I'd rather have them focus their resources on polishing GOG for at least another 3 years before branching to new game distribution.
I'm pretty much satisfied with the way the GOG is now. If they just manage to sign in remaining publishers I'm most likely set for life gamewise. As added bonus by buying exlusivly from GOG I don't have to upgrade my computer as often as I've used to as I'm always likely to find new (to me) games that my aging rig can handle. However I wouldn't mind GOG accepting Indie games to their catalog as well, especially because thats only place you can find HC cRPG's and other niche category games these days.

Maybe that's why we haven't seen EA here yet. :P

Which may also explain why some other publishers aren't here. It would be difficult to justify their stance if they agreed to drop DRM entirely from games as little as three years old.

Completely agreed. Not least of all because it would require a whole new site and therefore almost double the staff.

d3vilsadvocate: Who else thinks that gog.com should actually start selling new games, much like steam and all the others?

Not me. DRM-free thingy is nice, but I usually buy new games in stores when I can. So....

I certainly would prefer buying them on gog than anywhere else

No thanks.
Other people have brought up the DRM issue, but I will bring up the fact that there are already enough digital distributors that it would be pointless and futile. You have Steam, Impulse, Gamersgate, Direct2Drive, and even Xfire is selling games now.
My love for GOG stems from the fact that it almost gives me that feeling of browsing the PC games at Computer City with my dad back in 1997. GOG should definitely stick to this path of selling DRM-free favorites from the 90s and early 2000s.
GOG will sell today's new games. Some day. Eventually. :)

lowyhong: I don't know about seeling games, but the GOG community likes clubbing baby seals.

Baby seals are minors and they're not allowed to go clubbing.
I like the idea about a sister site for indie games, but new games seems unlikely considering that one of the main selling points of GOG is no DRM, and you won't see the DRM removed on a lot of new games these days.
yeah by "anywhere else" I only meant that I prefer gog over other online retailers. I still prefer boxed games over online-only titles.
Hmm I wonder how much attention my post would have gotten without the typo :P
There is no way to change the name of the topic subject, however...

Paradoks: Just give them some 2 - 3 years.
Edit: But then it wouldn't be called GOG any more ;). Expect something like GNG.

I'd prefer to pull it to a different server then. One for old games, and the other for new games. 8D

GOG forums are usually pretty slow, in terms of traffic. They're faster than they were, but don't go expecting 100 posts in an hour.
What I meant is that my post probably got more posts due to the typo hehe :D
Anyway, I see that most people are sceptical about gog selling new games. I can live with that.

I like how slow it is. I got to bed and wake up and everything new is on the 1st and 2nd page.

It's not a good idea.
