There are quite a lot of shooters on GOG and as i fairly young gamer (19) i havent heard of a lot of em. so what do u think about them? are they any good? im thinking of ggames like, shogo, chaser, iron storm, painkiller, kingpin and perhaps even MDK and second sight
Shogo is a nice Anime Style Robot Shooter, I really like it

Painkiller is a no-brainer, just run from area to area and shoot everyting that moves... a funny game :)

MDK is really well done a must try

If I can make you interest in two additional titles:
Duke Nukem 3D
Unreal

Both titles are really nice and with the unofficial patches and ports, really nice to look at as well :)
Basically: Painkiller, Blood and Duke Nukem 3D. Unreal if you like good level design. There and you have fun for months.
Chaser has a slower gameplay and some passages are downright boring (sniper mission, underwater, some parts on Mars) so you probably won't like it.

While Iron Storm's story is quite original, I did not like the scripting and omnipresent snipers. Heck, I did not even finish the game.

Painkiller is Serious Sam-ish shooter. Enter the room, kill horde of enemies, continue. While it's a brainless shooter, I quite like it.
a thought unreal was a multiplayer game! so ther is actually a single player in it? Blood and shogo are both from monlith, a stuido i lvoe so might check out:) is blood still fun today? what seperates it from duke nukem and doom?
Unreal Tournament 2004 is still one of the best multiplayer games out there. UT3 is now a better game, but it took so long for Epic to fix it up that the community died in the meantime. there's an absolute ton of mods and maps for this. I highly doubt you'll ever exhaust all that's on offer, no matter how much you love the game.

Painkiller is pure classic shooter action. It's basically a SHUMP in first person. Great weapons and some damn good level design in places. The dock level you don't appreciate the full genius of until you try and get to the secrets.

Duke Nukem 3D still very fun game. It has been surpassed since (although not by its sequel), but it's still a blast to play as the king.

Blood is much the same story - fun game. Good level design. Great weapons. It's the overall dark carnival mood of the game that really just makes it great.

Kingpin did do some innovative things at the time, but it's been completely outclassed since. You're better off with something like Saints Row 3 now.

Chaser has its moments. It's quite a long game without a whole lot of polish. It doesn't hold up so well today. Again, there are better options.
while unreal and painkilelr seems like good games, they also seem quite mindless, are there any shooters with good story on GOG? will rpobably buy blood because of its cult status:)

Unreal Tuournament games are MP focused ones, Unreal and Unreal 2 are mainly focused on SP. While Unreal 2 kinda sucks, first Unreal is a really great, polished and atmospheric SP experience, with fantastic locales that managed to drop my jaw even today.

As for Blood, I have properly played it for the first time about an year ago and I found it brilliant, even better than famed Duke Nukem 3D. Imaginative level design, fantastic weaponry and dark humor just won me over. I mean come on, who doesn't want to blast their enemies with sticks of dynamite? ... OR a woodoo doll? And as for what separates it from Duke and Doom ... Well ... That, a lot of creativity went into that game, it's go a unique atmosphere and while it's just a shooter, sheer ammount of ways of blasting your oponents is astounding. It's just ... fun, a bit sadistic, a bit scary, a bit funny, and certainly entertaining.

Unreal has ... Interesting story, but the best story-based shooter on GoG is probably ... Eh ... Outcast if we're not strictly talking first person perspective..

Old shooters weren't big on story. Half-Life pretty much started the whole story in shooters thing, and even then it was pretty limited compared to modern games. Duke is a good choice since it's a classic, plays like a modern game using eDuke and has, while not a big story component, at least a lot of personality.

As for old school shooters I would honestly divert you to Steam's id Super Pack. It is always going on sale, so it will surely be part of the Christmas sale this year. It's like 10+ classic shooters all in one DRM free package and ALL of them have source ports that make them play in high resolution widescreen on modern PCs. You can't go wrong there.
Shadow Warrior too. Oh wait...
What you did list.. Painkiller or MDK are fine games. I would still buy Bloodrayne 1 over them.. Like I infact did. Good thing to have something other than rpgs.
But if it really is plain shooters you are looking. Painkiller is way to go. It even has good music if I recall right.
what about shogo then? probably the one im most into. will check unreal as well

stupid question but if i could only go with one: shoild i choose blood, shogo, unreal or something else?:)

Actually one of the things that really surprised me about Unreal was that it had quite a good storytelling, slightly worse than HL but still pretty good.

Shogo's got pretty ... eh, dumb ending and it's difficulty curve jumps all over the place like crazy, so I wouldn't really recommend it.

As for Unreal vs. Blood, I'd say that depends - Unreal will give you a bigger sence of continuity and more coherent story, but Blood is simply more fun and has the whole dark humor aspect. If story is really, REALLY, important to you, pick Unreal. Strictly for gameplay, Blood would be a better choice.

Blood is the most fun and thus stands up the best today. Shogo is a bit rough around the edges and any sense of being a massive robot stomping around a city is long since lost. A sequel would be very welcome. There are many good things about Shogo. But it just doesn't hold up so well. Unreal's main strength was its graphics engine, which is obviously not such a selling point now. The game is pretty good. The soundtrack is particularly fine, but it's not too difficult to find something better.
Also, Blood's soundtrack. Let it play at least a minute. Fantastic.
