Hi folks!

I've come up with an interesting way to help some of us with gigantic backlogs to decide, stick to, and hopefully clear out a bit.

So welcome to GOG Roulette!

So how do you folks at home play along?

Its easy! :D

1. Make a list of your GOGs, numbering them in order (whether that be purchase order, alphabetical or a custom order its up to you (I use purchase order))
(Took a looooonnggg time for me because I have a 300+ backlog! XD)

I recommend making a spreadsheet for this. Just enter each game into a cell going downwards. (So the first game is in cell 1 of column A, the second in Cell 2 of column A, ect. till you get to the end.)

2. Get a random number generator
I use this website:
www.random.org

3. set the maximum to the last game of your list.

(so my Max is 368)

4. Generate 3 random numbers (so 3 GOGs (I made it 3 at a time just to stop people burning out on a game))

5. Find what games match those numbers in your database

(so 149, 81, and 286 = Total Annihilation Kingdoms, Sanitarium, and Deponia for me)

6. Play ONLY those games, (but you can switch between them at will).

7. Only when you beat a game, can you generate a new game to play.
(You can only give up on a game if it really frustrates you. Like say, Lure of the Temptress, (I drew it, tried it, really hated the controls and the glitches and decided that there was no way I was going to sit though this game))

8. If its a sequel to another game, or a bundle, then you can choose to substitute for its prequel (so if I drew Deponia 2, then I would likely switch that to Deponia if I haven't already beaten it), or to play only one game of that bundle.
(So say I drew Might and Magic I-VI. I think it reasonable (due to the length of those games) to choose just one to play through)

9. If you've already beaten it, you can obviously redraw.

So far I have abandoned 1 game, (Lure of the Temptress), and completed 1 (Normality).
Sanitarium is my next target. (A game I've played and enjoyed before and haven't completed yet. I look forward to playing it tomorrow and hopefully beating it, (if not, I plan to switch to Deponia for a while))

So anyone up for playing? ;D
(I plan to try to stick to it and give a mini review of each game I beat)

Completed:
Normality - A pretty decent adventure title. Quirky plot and characters, and a nice graphical design, though its puzzles get increasingly obtuse and it feels like the game got worse the closer you got to finishing it.
I would still recommend for curiosity sake at least! :)

Abandoned:
Lure of the Temptress - Very glitchy and fiddly, (and kind of boring by todays standards). Wouldn't recommend.
Good Idea, I might adopt it..

Though I really Hated normality :/...
Like the idea, but it's going to take me awhile to generate my numbers. :)
This system reminds me of TV phenomenon..... That is, where you have a large library of movies and you don't feel like watching any of those movies, but then one comes on TV and you sit and watch it!!!! I still haven't quite figured out why this is true???
I drew:

1. Conquest of the New World
2. Stronghold Crusader HD
3. Enclave

3. Enclave
I thought you already finished Enclave some time last year? :-)

Nope, never did. I got about 12 levels in or so before giving up, sadly. :(

RetroVortex: *snip*.
I think it's a great idea, but I found it nearly painless to switch my shelf into list view, copy the list into notepad, then copy those contents into Excel, it listed them automatically for me.

I tried copying the list directly into Excel but it's currently hanging so I wouldn't recommend it.

edit : I drew: 128 - Icewind Dale
42 - Catacombs Pack
and 156 - Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2

Though I'm still playing Wizardry 6 so I may just use these as something on the side for now.

I actually play 20 games at once and use random.org to select which one to play for a bit next - I have to complete a level, defeat a boss or make some measurable progress before I can 'unlock' a re-roll
The 20 games represent different genres and I sometimes use Random.org to decide which game from my backlog of that genre should go into the list when a game is finished...

(Games are not just GOG but Steam, Desura and sometimes even retail when I can be bothered to hunt through the cupboard!)
