I love GOG, Larian, and the Divinity series but something about this promo is a bit off. It's added a touch of murky weirdness to my morning. I'll be passing on this promo but I'll insta-buy Divinity II: Director's Cut the day it comes out (even though I already have D2:DKS on Amazon).

Ok, heh. I still feel that he's acting within the spirit of the bundle, though. Quote GOG:

Leaderboards? What’s that?

If you want to make it known that you love GOG.com and Larian Studios, if you pay over $22.99, you can be on our leaderboard! You can either post your username as it is on the GOG.com forums, or change it to anything else you like. If you make it your Twitter name, it will automatically make a link to your Twitter profile. Of course, if you’d rather, you can just keep it anonymous.

Why support Larian Studios in particular?

Larian Studios is one of the few remaining teams doing highly-polished, fully-featured, open-ended RPGs true to the PC roots of the genre.

I want to pay more than $39.99 for this bundle--can I?

That's so nice of you! You can easily give more to Larian and to GOG.com by clicking on the number next to the green “checkout now” button and typing in any number you like. Edit: Seems the italics are broken. Also, the $22.99 amount is probably automatically added because it's the lowest current amount on the leaderboard.

BoxOfSnoo: Is there a way to raise your price after purchase without buying another bundle? If not, once the max price issue is fixed, that should be looked into. Otherwise early buyers are punished.
No, there isn't any way of doing it. But if you were in the top 90% at that time, then you get the whole bundle. The only thing this would change would be the leader board standings.

I'm not sure how they would as they don't store CC number after the transaction is completed.

Fred_DM: so the bundle now costs a whopping $21 after having been live for a only a few hours. that's almost twice of what it cost when it launched. something tells me this isn't working out the way GOG wanted it. you now roughly save 33% compared to paying full price. that's not much of a deal even for GOG standards, where games regularly go 60% off. and considering Divinity 2 has gone 75% off on competing platforms, a 33% (and decreasing!) discount kind of pales in comparison. everybody who wasn't here when the bundle launched will just shrug upon seeing the offer and walk away.
It's $20.01 not $21 but yeah you're pretty much right.

hedwards: Right now, if you want the first two games, you get $1 off the two, which really isn't much of a discount for GOG. Or really any retailer.
Just buy DD for 0.01 and BD for normal 5.99 - that's 50% off total. :P
Wow, this is new! Hope sales go the right way ;) Not buying this time...

pyrrhicvictor: I'm going to talk crazy for a moment, but could it be a dev looking to drive up the price of the bundle? Would that even make mathematical sense? How many people would have to buy the game at the inflated price to make back the investment?
I doubt that. GOG's cut is probably about 30%. I don't know how it works in the case of outlier payments in this promo, but let's go with $300 in real money. To compensate for that, an extra $400 (again, minus GOG's cut) is needed before taxes. Now, even without the $1000 payment, the top 10% would've gone up as people tried to get onto the leaderboard. And finally, it's not an exclusive deal on GOG - people can buy the game on other platforms. So I think it's just someone who really likes Larian and GOG.

On another note, I find it funny that I don't recognize anyone on the leaderboards. And there isn't a single twitter link.

Except that I already own the original and it's going to be months before anybody is going to be able to actually sell or trade any of the Divine Divinity copies they get today. Same goes for the Realms of Arkania 1+2 that were given away for the survey.

Not that I'm bitching about RoA, I'll either be keeping it or giving it away when there aren't so many copies still floating about.

So, for somebody like me it's a discount of -$0.01 or -0.1669%.
I am wondering... The Anthology package supposedly includes Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity updated in hi-res for Windows 7. Is this something different than what we had, before, or is Larian Studios putting out new versions of the games? I suppose the GOG versions of the game might already be hi-res for Windows 7, and that would mean that Larian might just be including the GOG versions of the games in their Anthology package. If that's not the case, will our GOG versions be updated to reflect what Larian is now publishing?

It's enough to make one's head spin. Anyone on GOG Staff want to clarify this?

Thank you for the offer, GOG!! It's been a while i have those two games on my wishlist, i own Divinity II on Steam already from Amazon sale for like 5 euros,. Sorry but I am pretty tight with money these times, sadly.. I went for the lowest price, less than 1 euro for Divine Divinity. Then i could get Beyond Divinity from Green Man Gaming offer & coupon for less than 1 euro as well, WOW! This made my day, and will keep me warm in the coming cold days indeed, i do hope to see more "pay what you want" bundle deals from GOG so sweet like this in the future. Thanks!!

You two are doing better than I am. I have yet to find a link to any GOG leaderboards at all, much less the one for this promo.

[Edit: Ah, finally found it on the main promo page. Looks like it's getting more and more difficult to stay on the list, too.]

Goes to show that GOG has a large amount of followers who don't spend their time in the forums. ;)

Borilius (the current #3 of the leaderboard) did write a single post about three years ago, here ...

According to THIS article those are different versions.

"The first problem with the release of the Anthology occurred back in April when we couldn’t find back the “remastered” source code that we used to re-release Divine Divinity on GOG back in 2009. It turned out that the programmer who since then left Larian hadn’t made a correct backup of the code, and at that time we didn’t have anything in place to check the backups.

Because we wanted to make sure that Divine Divinity was compatible with Windows 7 & co, we redid the “remastering” based on a source tree we weren’t 100% sure of. This caused unnecessary QA stress, but we had no choice: it turned out that half the backups from 2002 weren’t readable anymore, or used some kind of backup tool that we couldn’t locate. But we eventually managed, and to test the waters we released Divine Divinity on Steam, which much to our surprise actually turned out to be a great success.

Next came the re-mastering of Beyond Divinity. Here our backup policy (which had evolved between 2002 and 2004) turned out to be a bit more solid, and while we had some fun with getting Russian and Polish running, the war-stories were limited to technical details such as getting our direct3D 6 implementation to run on windows 7 and why you shouldn’t do a binary dump of virtual base classes when creating a save-game format. Nothing out of the ordinary."
