QC: For the time being it's not too bad. Witcher 2 is $43, Legend of Grimrock is $15, Assassins's creed is $20, Heroes of Might and Magic 5 Bundle is $20, Whispered World is $15.
What? It is not bad? I bought a physical copy of HOMM 5 bundle brand new last week on a local store for R$15,00 which would be something like 8 dollars. I also bought Farcry 2 and AC 2 for the same price. All of them brand new and sealed. So, lets see, i bought 3 games almost for the price of one here on GOG. And for me a physical copy has a much bigger value than digital, since im a collector.

And you have better price on a lot of games on Steam ... I say we should cover you in tar & feathers cause you live in Brazil :) And publicly shoot Russians for better prices :)

Enough with this comparing with Retail & Digital already. A retail seller can put whatever price he wants cause he already paid for the game to the publisher - digital is different

Crosmando: But the only games that are breaking the "6 or 10$" mold are the newer ones, which are the same prices as on other DD sites.
GOG has previously had recent releases like King's Bounty and Two Worlds for $10 despite those games still selling for more than that elsewhere. Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 is older than these games and yet sells for double the price.

They don't make the prices :) Publisher say: You want to sell it... this is the price... take it or leave it ;)
avatar
Roman5: Why on EARTH are RCT3 and Assassin's Creed 20 Dollars? What is this nonsense?

You can get a boxed copy of AC online for like 3-5 Bucks
They are $20 because that is the publisher-set price everywhere for those games. Digital delivery means the publisher controls the price, boxed sales mean discounts from retailers. If this bothers you then you shouldn't use the GOG model at all, you should be fighting to retain boxed copies.
avatar
spindown: What about today's release of Rollercoaster Tycoon 3? They are selling a seven-year old game for $20.
avatar
Neobr10: Thats kind of insane, if you ask me. You can get the physical version cheaper.
As always, GOG prices should be compared to prices on other digital outlets, not retail bargain bins. For example, Steam is apparently selling RCT3 for 29.99€ (= $39.70 or so), ie. for almost twice as much, at least for us poor Europeons.

Anyway, I'll first try the first two RCT games that I have already, and then decide whether I want RCT3, for any price.

EDIT: Ninjaed by many, my internet and reflexes are slow today.

The good news is that GOG does offer these games, DRM-free, with extras, and does so at the regular current market price of the item. And it's not even reducing its releases in the other, cheaper price ranges.

The rest is not worth the fuzz imho. If a game is sold at a price you want to pay for it, then buy it. If not, then wait until it reaches the price point you want. Simple as that.

Russians are going to fire back. :P

By the way, I saw TET explain the other day that publishers do not explicitly set the price. Rather GOG sets "with taking into account" publisher's attitude. I would be curious to find out more on the matter.

It is a matter of talking to the publishers... they can't sell it on their own idea of pricing. Some of the publishers are into lowering prices some aren't. I guess this is what TET had in mind

Yeah I think you should be right about that. :)

By the way, I was shocked like others seeing a not-so-new Tycoon game at 20 USD. I adore HoMM and I respect AC series. But a Tycoon? I have no interest in those except for OpenTTD.

On a positive note, however, I did like seeing Splinter Cell being released for only 10 USD. Plus it is a Ubisoft title, and as we all know Ubi is not exactly generous when it comes to pricing the games.

Yet it is cheaper than Steam for EU customers :)

Splinter Cell? It's not. It's €5 here on Steam. (~$6.6), and it's been on sale for €1.69 and €1.24 a fair number of times now

Ah, my mistake. And I hadn't noticed that about Ubisoft yet but I'll keep an eye on that, that's interesting :)

Tycoon price is higher in both EU and US, at a pretty insane price. Heck, I'm surprised RCT is even available in the EU on Steam as I know the last time I looked at it it was still region restricted to the US.

Either way the price is far too high in my opinion. Perhaps GOG's introduction will push the price on the other retailers down to about the same. (still too high, but oh well).

Sale prices for RCT3 put it at $/€10 though, which is about the same you can expect from a GOG sale probably.
