It would appear that by the price point on recent new releases that the GOG model is more successful then ever thought possible.

What I mean is that it would appear that the nostalgic market is not only alive but growing. This is supported by the steady increase in the price point of recent release.

My guess is that the copyright holders and all the interim holders all are now after their piece of the pie.

That's why I say it,s too successful.

If the old games start coming up at +$10, then I'll be screaming the forums down, and declaring bloody war on GOG for betraying my loyalty.

Newer titles they can do what they like, I just won't be buying them.

What about today's release of Rollercoaster Tycoon 3? They are selling a seven-year old game for $20.

Thats kind of insane, if you ask me. You can get the physical version cheaper. I think the only old game i would pay 20 dollars instantly without hesitating is System Shock 2.

K well one of you run out and fetch us up a copy RCT3 off the street and let's see how long it takes us to get it running on one of our Windows 7 or Vista machines. If it's a piece of piss then... Yeah 20 USD? Someone will pay it to keep the lights on yeah?

For the time being it's not too bad. Witcher 2 is $43, Legend of Grimrock is $15, Assassins's creed is $20, Heroes of Might and Magic 5 Bundle is $20, Whispered World is $15. With this new game that makes six out of a few hundred that break the model. All of these are newer titles as well, so the price is going to be marked higher than for an old game. If this was a physical distribution of games, all of these older titles would probably be priced higher by rarity.

I probably won't get this title, mostly because I'm terrible at the Tycoon games and others like it. But like everyone says, you don't like it, you don't buy it. It'll come down in price eventually or be popped into a sale, so it's not like the $20 tag is forever. Plus, you can get a physical copy, I'm sure there's quite a few copies to be found. It might be pretty damn hard to get working as well and you'll have wasted however much if you aren't willing to put in a good amount of time to try and make it work.

So long as we still get about 4 games under $10 to one over $10 there's still going to be plenty to choose from.

See, this, THIS is what I feared

GOG raises the prices, fair enough but as I feared: Dumbass publishers abuse this

Why on EARTH are RCT3 and Assassin's Creed 20 Dollars? What is this nonsense?

You can get a boxed copy of AC online for like 3-5 Bucks

It's gonna go to the point when EVERY future game in the catalogue is going to be 20 Dollars

If it Continues this way, it will be just like with steam where most people buy games only during promos

For every newer game they release another classic game get's pushed back further. I can get games like RTC3 and Assassins Creed on other sites. I want the old stuff that the sites like Steam don't find worth the time to get working . Not to say that Steam SHOULD give those games resources because their company thrives on selling the new and semi-new stuff. GOG needs the dominate the classic games market and stop going for Steam customers. I hate to say it but if GOG gets too deep into Steam's territory then GOG will get crushed. GOG needs to do what they do best and keep improving on that strength. Stop trying to be everything for everyone. I understand the need to expand business and bring in revenue but this is an avenue that will end up backfiring.

Saying that it's "only five out of over a humdred" games tht are above $10 misses the point: that they represent a much higher ratio of recent releases.

But the only games that are breaking the "6 or 10$" mold are the newer ones, which are the same prices as on other DD sites. I don't think GOG have broken any of their rules, as all the old games are still in the 6/10 bracket, and the newer/indie stuff was just an attempt to bridge out a bit/support indie development.
