Some of my GOG installers are taking a long time to even start the file integrity check when I click on them. After it starts though, it's fine. Running Windows 7 64-bit on a brand new PC, installers downloaded through Chrome, UAC disabled. It even did this on my old Windows XP PC after I had it awhile. Any ideas what the cause of the slow start in the installers is?

Maybe your anti-virus?

Azrael360: Maybe your anti-virus?
Yeah, I think that's it because after I changed settings to not scan when writing or opening files it returned to normal. Thanks!
Great! :)
Just to know, which is your anti-virus?

EDIT:
Nevermind. From another post I read it is Avast.

Its not just the antivirus. For the games released in 2008 and some in 2009, from what I can tell by looking at the installation scripts, they were intentionally delaying the installation in order to advertise the service more (I could be wrong as I couldn't see the Code section, but there was definitely some delay introduced in the Setup section (talking about script's sections)).

(2008 and 2009 games are the ones I've noticed this delay with, it could be present in games released in 10 / 11 / 12 too.)

No, what you're seeing is the free games. We *do* extend the install time a little bit for them; since most of the free games are downloaded by new users and we're paying the costs for download, remastering, testing, support, and goodies for you, we figure it's not excessive to make sure that you see a couple slides about who we are while they install.

Any game that's not free that you've purchased legitimately from GOG.com that's running a little bit slow on install is a bug and you should probably drop a ticket to Support about it. I asked Gowor, our build ninja, about this and he's confident that it's only the free games, though.

Could be, don't remember which games I extracted the scripts for (but some definitely had a delay of 250 (or a similar number) for some elements (the images shown to the user?)). It was a while ago.

Don't have a GOG on my machine to test other games right now (will mess around with one again when you guys release Legend of Grimrock's new version (patch + editor)).

Yeah, I've had the same problem with Comodo, where GOG installers would take a good couple of minutes to start the file integrity check. Just switched it to Training Mode before I start a GOG installer and that was that.

It's only for free games. If you find that in any other installer, let me know.

Actually, I was talking about the time it takes to even start the file integrity check after clicking on the installer. While disabling the "scan when opening or writing files" in anti-virus made the time much shorter, I swear I don't remember it even taking that long before, though it might have been on earlier GOG releases. I did have that scan option on while re-downloading the installers from GOG, could that have affected the files somehow? They still pass the integrity check.
I have problems with Microsoft Security Essentials, it insisted on scanning wav files when I downloaded and installed Black Mesa. So I disabled it, the install finished almost instantly.

I've been having this issue as well (not just free GOG games) and I use Avast too. Where do I find that option? I can't find it. :(

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it! Gosh, that's amazing. I thought something was wrong with my computer because of this.

Hope having that option on Avast while re-downloading my GOGs didn't affect them negatively, I really don't want to spend another several hours downloading again as I wan't to be sure these downloads will stay stable enough for long term backup.
