Every one is a moon, and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody--Mark Twain

To the Moon, the heart-touching indie phenomenon that takes you on a trip inside a person's mind, is discounted by 60% on GOG.com for the next 24 hours!

All you ever hear is that you should live your life to the fullest, so once you're nearing its end you'll be able to look back at it with no regrets. Wise words, but honestly: to err is human and that amazing thing called life doesn't really come with a comprehensive user-manual. So after a lifetime of trial and error we often find ourselves wishing to go back and correct at least some of our mistakes. This is a story of a dying man full of regret and an two scientists who dared to venture into the depths of his mind to give him another chance. Doing that, they will become witnesses to his amazing--and amazingly human--memories.

To the Moon is a uniqe indie adventure with lots of original puzzles and nostalgic SNES-era RPG aesthetics. The gameplay focuses on exploration of a vast world supported only by a dying man's fading memories. All of the interaction focuses on restoring and altering those pale fragments, filtering out the false ones, and--ultimately--allowing the patient to re-live a perfected version his live in his mind.

How far will you go to make a dying man's last wish possible? You can even go To the Moon, for only $3.99 until Thursday, September 20 at 10:59 AM GMT.

kalirion: To the Moon is basically a Visual Novel made with RPG Maker, right? Are there multiple endings with player choices mattering, or is it just a linear story?
Almost 100% linear. I recall one choice in the game, and it was one that didn't seem to matter in the slightest.
Ok I'd initially dismissed it, however for this price I'm going to have to dismiss my initial, dismissal and buy it forthwithal (ok that last word is a stretch)
eVERYONE MUST BUY THIS NOW

the_bard: I thought the Gem promo was for old games GOG! :D
Well, it's for all those hidden gems, and because the catalog is getting bigger and bigger it is so easy to overlook a hidden gem of a game, hence the promo. It should have been for oldies only, but this indie one looks old enough (16-bit graphics...).

Damn, fookin polaks!

BOUGHT! You happy now? I just bought the indie bundle and now this, and 100s of unplayed games and not enough in a lifetime to play them.

Crap, I hate you gog. :P
Hell yes! I've been waiting for exactly this promo! Buying it now.

Your avatar convinced me.

F4LL0UT: Also bought but I'm angry at myself that I've just paid for an RPG Maker game.
Why? If the game is good it doesn't really matter how was created. Do you think that creating a game without the need to know some programing language is easy? If so, you can try something like that by yourself :)

Many good games were created in software similar to RPG Maker. For example Spelunky was made in Game Maker. I'm even trying to create something by myself in another similar software and it's not easy at all. You'll just skip the useless coding of your own engine and start focusing right away on the content and the game itself.
Nice promo, more interested in the music really. The game seems to be of a sad story, will pass for now.

I know, I know, and so was Karoshi and a few other notable games. I have experience with this kind of software including a few Game Maker games of my own. When it comes to the RPG Maker though... it's something personal...

All right. Are there any actual adventure style puzzles here? Or is it just "walk over there, talk to that guy, walk over here get this thing, walk over there talk to the other guy"?
Wow, I never would have expected To the Moon to be in a gem promo, especially so soon after release. Buy this now!
Thank you! Almost bought this elsewhere! Forgot you guys had it lol

I keep forgetting GOG has indie games lol

Pretty much the latter. Every now and then, you get a very simplistic puzzle where you flip over some tiles to complete a picture, but that's it. No inventory or anything (well, you do have an inventory, but it serves no purpose at all, or at least I didn't see any). Otherwise you just walk and talk, and you don't really get to pick what are you going to talk about, either.

I'm making it sound worse than it is, though.
Seems like a PITA to get to work under Wine, so I'll pass.
