<span class="bold">[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/seven_kingdoms_ancient_adversaries]Seven Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries, an incredible blend of population and city management, trade, espionage, diplomacy and combat, is only $2.39 for the next 24 hours.

A long, long time ago, when people lived among gods and monsters, seven kingdoms struggled for rule over the land. Lead one of those civilizations to glory through sophisticated trade, diplomacy, espionage, and conquest. Seven Kingdoms is a real-time mix of empire building and RTS combat, but the unique ideas make it more than a simple hybrid--it’s a deeply satisfying strategy which will require planning, a strong economy, and, if you choose to, fighting. Seven Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries is a patched, updated and re-released version of the original game Seven Kingdoms.

The deep plots, rich characters, and Byzantine double-dealing remind us of a certain well-known fantasy series that’s just started its second season up in America, so we thought this would be a fantastic chance for you to play something like a “Game of Things that Kings Sit On”, if you know what we mean. ;)

The complexity of Seven Kingdoms allows you to achieve your goals in multiple ways, but there is only one way you can get this Gem for $2.39: it’s right here on GOG.com, for the next 24 hours.

gameon: Because we'd be paying for something thats free somewhere else. Legally free.

gyokzoli: You don't get music with that version.
Actually it looks like you do now http://7kfans.com/, though gog's soundtrack file is larger in size, I haven't actually compared what is in each zip however.

That said with this promotion it isn't exactly expensive to get it from GOG, and the developers / publishers might get a bit towards their next project or beer :)

gameon: Sure. Ok, i see that you get more with the GOG.com version. I'm sure some people will get it. I guess i'll pass on this one. Sorry if i've put any one off buying it.

SimonG: If you consider money spent on a good game wasted, only because it is free somewhere else, you pretty much missed the point.
If you're broke and you have to decide between a free(legal) version and a paid version I think(for most) the choice is obvious.
I agree with gameon. I don't know what's wrong with some GOG.com fanboys.

This game is avaible for free. No reason to buy things, that are free. Period.

Edited : )

Gog does provide extras, but the soundtrack is also available free. So it's just the manual, but considering there is a great big wiki . . . .
I would be interested in knowing how much of the sale goes towards the original developers. I was going to buy this, it isn't much money, but on princible, I won't.

OK, but for this game in particular, there aren't any particular goodies. There's the manual of course, but the game itself contains tutorial, so lacking it is not a big pain.

Soundtrack? If somebody likes to listen music this old, then ok, maybe it's an advantage.

There is a reason, you know, that this game is on sale, and not the second seven kingdoms title.
Either way, my CD versions for both this and the sequel seem to run fine in Win7 64bit and I'm not that big to this game (although I do like RTS games), so I'll pass this no-CD version for now.

When I play this game, I'll most probably play the CD version, not the freeware open source version. Unless the latter offers something special, apart from noCD.

That explains why those stupid humble bundles are such a devestating failure ...

People buy those to support the devs current and future projects, promote the indie genre, and help charity.....
I'll skip. I keep an eye on sth else - more "wingy" and "commanding" - yesterday I missed it because I had no $$$ on my card but I just got a confirmation SMS that credit has been restored :-)

The point is, you should never pay because you have to, but because you want to. If you can't pay for something, because of your financial possibilities, get it for free. If you have disposable income, you pay for what you like. (That's also why I have no problem with most forms of piracy)

So far, the PWYW model isn't as much available as I like, but the abundance of sales makes it work for me nearly that way. Eg, 100$ for Wasteland 2 and 5$ for MW 2 is pretty much what I would have paid with a PWYW model anyway.

When it comes to GOG, I consider the 6$ or 10$ more of a "service fee" to have the game always available anywhere than the price for the actual game. Especially considering I already have 80% of my GOGs lying around somewhere.

What on earth are you people arguing about, rightholders decided to both put the game out open-source and on GoG. If you don't see a reason to buy this, by all means, don't :D If someone wants to buy it for whatever reason, well, whatever, he can, why the hell not :D

Agreed

I wish games would be sold on sliding scale based on income(when not on sales that is.) Probably never gonna happen but I can dream, eh?
----------------
I also consider it a small price to pay for said games when I can afford them.

So aggressive. :(

This is one of very few commercial games to have been open sourced. If you're actually interested in playing the game, it might be a good idea to buy it. Open sourced games are immortal so long as someone cares to maintain them. Not buying a game ONLY because it can also be had for free sends a negative message to those who are in the position to free their games.

Buying free games doesn't mean you are a chump.

Maybe the fanboy comment was a bit too much, but the rest was spot on(I would've said NEAR no reason to buy games that are free though.).

What you said can also be flipped around to the reverse....when games are free(legally) then why buy them if you don't want to?(Especially if you're worse off than most.)
Interesting observation, JA2 is open source, but not free, since the rest of the game's resources isn't (textures, images, sounds etc). Not sure if this is the case with 7 Kingdoms, since while the Wiki claims that all parts are under GPL, I prefer to read the source of the "Game now free" post before commenting.
