A yummy tower defense/RPG snack, that's hard to refuse. May contain nuts.
Defender's Quest, an addictive mixture of tower defense and RPG set in a world shattered by mysterious disease, is available 60% off, on GOG.com. That's only $5.99 for the next 24 hours!

Did you ever want to have special psychic powers that would let you toy with souls of living human beings and bind them to your will? Please don't answer. Azra, the Royal Librarian, never asked for such a thing. In fact, she never asked for any of the ordeals that fate put her through. But--willing or not--she's become a hero and the future of her homeland depends solely on her. All because of her suddenly discovered ability to turn her companions into etheric specters and command them like pawns around a battlefield existing outside space and time. Wanna hear a secret? She's starting to enjoy it.

Defender's Quest does many things that many games fail to do. First of all, it's a tower defense game that never gets boring. That's mostly achieved by mixing in many RPG elements. That leads us to another thing that this game gets right--mixing genres. Nine times out of ten combining so very different gaming philosophies will backfire. Here, we've got the lucky number ten, that managed to hit the sweet spot and emerge as a perfect and seamless combination. The gameplay here is just as much enjoyable and intuitive, as it is fresh. The brilliant, unforced humor serves as the cherry on top. You'll be enjoying this game for hours. Be warned, though--it's quite addictive!

Answer the mysterious call, grasp the mystical power, and face the ominous force that plagues the Valley of the Forgotten. Are you prepared for hours of enthralling gameplay? Get your copy of Defender's Quest, for only $5.99 until Thursday, January 24, 10:59AM GMT.

If you'd like to try the game first, here's a lengthy browser-based demo (with the ability to export your saved game to the full version, so you won't have to start over after you decide to buy it).

Crosmando: Am I the only one who remembers all those Tower defense maps in Warcraft 3 bnet? Damn some of them were really fun.
I remember. Weren't those the origin of the tower defense genre? I rather enjoyed all those WarCraft 3 bonus maps they had up on their official page.

Zoidberg: Just tried the demo, seems nice enough but the price is too steep.
You must be joking. For $5.99 it's a steal. It's not a game that is over after some hours. So far I spent about 70 hours with it and I'm still at the beginning of NG+ mode (have completed normal mode on all difficulties though).
damn, i don't have enough money this week. i hope there will be another offer.

MichiGen: Played demo some time ago and it was really great and addictive. Can't refuse to buy it for this price :)

Zoltan999: Ditto here..looks like that evil GOG is back into my wallet again...Damn!
GOG is indeed evil, they are successfully finding new ways how to rob me all the time :D

On the Internet you are never the only one ;) I've spent countless hours with tower defense scenarios in W3 at our LAN. Good times :)

jpolastre: Since your party goes up in level you'd think that the game could turn too easy after a while. Just grind a while and you'll win no matter your strategy. Well, that doesn't happen at all here; I'm almost at the end and I still have a challenge to overcome. And then there is New game+ to play afterwards.

Kunovski: exactly...

I'm close to the end too, I've finished everything I was able to, but the remaining levels (or their upper difficulties) are just unbeatable... I must be doing something wrong :(
The game is beatable. I've recently finished it with 201/201 golden stars in Game+ mode and all bonuses unlocked :D

As for the infernal sheep it's IMHO the worst part of the game because it's not challenging - it's just tedious. I discovered, however, a perfect tactics which works even in game+ - one berserker/knight to take care for regular sheep and knight + ice mage combo for the boss. Knights are well known to deal huge damage to a single target and ice mages will slow the sheep further down. I usually put three knights in a row and one-two ice mages directly behind them. Boost them all of course! Obviously, you have to recall those which cannot attack anymore and place them back in a proper place. When you have some spare psi put some rangers too. Do it wisely so that they cover a lot of area. DO NOT use any dragon - their flame will melt the ice.

Ah! I've just recalled! Do not use berserker in game+ mode - put some knight there as well. In this mode the infernal sheep has porcupine ability and deals a lot of damage to any adjacent defender and will simply vanish your brave berserker. The knight, however, should be safe due to his armor.
Hey all!

I'm the lead developer of Defender's Quest - just a quick note that a new patch will be coming soon! Definitely won't be ready before the sale is over, but here's some of the upcoming goodies:

Since we have a big international audience, especially here on GOG, the next big thing we're rolling out is localization support. This will allow people to supply their own translations of the game into any language that uses the extended latin character set (we'll look into adding more exotic stuff like Cyrillic and Asian characters later).

We're also paying for a German translation, which should be ready before the end of the month. If that goes well we might consider doing more, but we'll also be looking to fans who might want to volunteer to help out with crowd-sourced translations. With the next patch, you'll be able to just drop in your own text into a special folder to add your own language files. If we can figure out the legal details, and we can get some proof-readers to look over submissions, we'll even consider including fan translations in future patches of the game.

Defender's Quest forum thread about localization.
Also... we might be announcing something about Defender's Quest 2 in a few weeks. Maybe :)

I haven't even finished the game (I got stuck about 20 stars before end) and I beat the extreme+ sheep quite easily with a bit different tactics, although I agree it was tedious. I used all archers in right spots, 1 healer to keep my berserkers alive, three berserkers to whack the sheep and 3 ice mages to slow it. Plus 1 damaging monk to murder the other sheeps. :-) I kept recalling the berserks and mages as the sheeped proceeded and when it got out of reach of archers I moved tehm as well.
Also I satrted to place my berserks only at the intersection, I let it proceed freely before.
Neat. Normally not into that kind of game but tried the demo a while ago and liked it a lot. Bought.
When this game came out I bought it twice, because the price was too low.

Now the price is waaaaay too low. Not sure how anyone can refuse.

Well, I'm a financially challenged moron, so I'll have to sit out the promo, but the game sounds awesome.

Well, I sure hope the humor can come through intact. It's very difficult to handle that sort of thing and ti's quite key to the experience of the game.

Crossing my fingers.

That's great! Count me in for the Polish version! (I will write more on the specific forum you linked)

Hoping so, too - we had several translators apply, and I had some of my german-speaking friends help me vet them before we picked one. We'll also submit the final text to several rounds of proof-reading in case anything needs to be punched up/tweaked.

I take it by your post you speak German? Would you like to help us "test" the translation :D ?
I played the demo when it was released and liked the game but decided not to buy it since I have more worthy games to play and I found the graphic style not very appealing. I saw the promo and tried the demo again without any intention to buy it and realized that I liked the game enough to want to play it again. So I bought it too.

Even though I don't like most cartoon inspired graphics styles used in computer games, this one is not so bad (apart from some very inappropriate hair for a quasi-medieval setting), there are some things I actually liked about the art (and I'm picky about it). Solid gameplay and solid presentation. This should be a fun game. And, making a browser based demo was a stroke of genius. Such ingenuity should be rewarded.

I just realised that GOG added a browser based demo on the promo page.

EDIT: i never read the blurb in the OP lol.
