A yummy tower defense/RPG snack, that's hard to refuse. May contain nuts.
Defender's Quest, an addictive mixture of tower defense and RPG set in a world shattered by mysterious disease, is available 60% off, on GOG.com. That's only $5.99 for the next 24 hours!

Did you ever want to have special psychic powers that would let you toy with souls of living human beings and bind them to your will? Please don't answer. Azra, the Royal Librarian, never asked for such a thing. In fact, she never asked for any of the ordeals that fate put her through. But--willing or not--she's become a hero and the future of her homeland depends solely on her. All because of her suddenly discovered ability to turn her companions into etheric specters and command them like pawns around a battlefield existing outside space and time. Wanna hear a secret? She's starting to enjoy it.

Defender's Quest does many things that many games fail to do. First of all, it's a tower defense game that never gets boring. That's mostly achieved by mixing in many RPG elements. That leads us to another thing that this game gets right--mixing genres. Nine times out of ten combining so very different gaming philosophies will backfire. Here, we've got the lucky number ten, that managed to hit the sweet spot and emerge as a perfect and seamless combination. The gameplay here is just as much enjoyable and intuitive, as it is fresh. The brilliant, unforced humor serves as the cherry on top. You'll be enjoying this game for hours. Be warned, though--it's quite addictive!

Answer the mysterious call, grasp the mystical power, and face the ominous force that plagues the Valley of the Forgotten. Are you prepared for hours of enthralling gameplay? Get your copy of Defender's Quest, for only $5.99 until Thursday, January 24, 10:59AM GMT.

If you'd like to try the game first, here's a lengthy browser-based demo (with the ability to export your saved game to the full version, so you won't have to start over after you decide to buy it).

Looks like a childrens' game. Is it?

Nope.

Demo link's here if you're curious. You can only play up to a certain stage, but if you buy the full game, you can port your save game over.

Excellent game full of witty dialogue. The developer even took the time to release a native Linux version which i gladly bought directly from his site.

Patryn: I just don't like tower defense type of games.
Give the demo a try anyway. It is good enough to go beyond the "silly Tower Def game" stereotype, and it has the right amount of challenge to keep you interested.

Since your party goes up in level you'd think that the game could turn too easy after a while. Just grind a while and you'll win no matter your strategy. Well, that doesn't happen at all here; I'm almost at the end and I still have a challenge to overcome. And then there is New game+ to play afterwards.
Great gem you don't wanna miss.
Bought it simply because I played the demo a few months ago and was thinking about the game for the past week, but couldn't bother remembering the name.

exactly...

I'm close to the end too, I've finished everything I was able to, but the remaining levels (or their upper difficulties) are just unbeatable... I must be doing something wrong :(

MichiGen: Played demo some time ago and it was really great and addictive. Can't refuse to buy it for this price :)
Ditto here..looks like that evil GOG is back into my wallet again...Damn!
Just tried the demo, seems nice enough but the price is too steep.
Awesome! Been wanting to get this for a while and grapped it right away at this price.
Defender's Quest is amazing! If I didn't already have it, I'd buy it right this second.

:-)

I did all of them except that golden sheep. No matter what I do I simply can't lower its hp fast enough. I think my only option now is to grind for a while, and gain a few levels. Hopefully it'll also work on making my life easier when I start New game+.

If you need a hint, I'd recommend you invest heavily on archers attacks. They should be your primary dmg dealers. Also do not take lightly the berserker's bleed skill, healer's zeal and knight's counter. Lastly, break the enemy armor with your knights as soon as you possibly can.

Edit: do those bonus challenges as well because they provide you with books for Azra to equip. The ones I'm currently using give my party frenzy as soon as I put them on the field and slows the enemy when they enter or pop out of those fat monsters.

ah, the sheep of doom... I've tried that level about 5 times and I've always regreted the wasted time :D

thanks for the great hints, I'll check my abilities, that might be the problem... also, I only have 4 berserkers and 4 archers and 2 everything else... which is probably very little.

and yeah, I think I'm almost at the end now (a baddie helps you against the ultimate baddie) and I've finished most challenges and about 4-5 missions are still unbeated on the highest difficulty, but I just can't get through that. I'll try the books, it might help!

You're welcome. And yeah, that's the final battle indeed; and you would probably benefit from having a few more units.
I just read somewhere that upgraded Ice mages deal some heavy damage too, so I'll test whether they actually help against the sheep... I'm not confident tho because it was probably meant as total damage in their AoE attacks. That wouldn't mean much against a single opponent. Anyway I have the space for them behind my front row sword guys, so no harm in trying.

Good luck and good mass ghoul genocide for you.
Am I the only one who remembers all those Tower defense maps in Warcraft 3 bnet? Damn some of them were really fun.
