SimonG: And how do we tread collections? Is say, one page for each game in general. But some exceptions can of course be different.
avatar
Damuna: I'd say we should have a page for the collection as a whole, since that's what is sold by GOG, and then create offshoot pages from that to detail the individual games.
Yep, that or have different sections for each game within the collection page.

I don't know if you did mean this by "offshot pages" but each game should still get it's own page. So if each game gets its own "information box", we can provide more specific information about the extras etc ... Or so you can see each version of each game etc.

Not sure if this is true of all wikis (I've only ever dealt with Doku), but with DokuWiki, it is kind of set up like a file tree, so we could have an upper branch of the tree for the collection with sub-branches underneath that for each individual game within the collection.

Well, I suppose you can include a summary of the constituent games on the "package" page, and more detail on the "game" pages. I suppose having just one page for, say, the Might and Magic 6 pack would be a little silly.
I've upgraded the tyrian and arcanum page.

What do you think so far of this as a template.

What do we need to add or what is unnecessary?

I 'm done for the day and I am very interested in the coming development...

I'd comment, but I don't yet have the URL of the Wiki, so my ability to give feedback is somewhat limited currently.

All I can say is that it would be sensible to keep it to only one or two pages (as you seemingly are doing) until a layout is decided.

Damuna: I have no idea what "Mac comp" and "Linux comp" are referring to, so that needs to made clear.
Mac compatibility and Linux compatibility?

Damuna: I have no idea what "Mac comp" and "Linux comp" are referring to, so that needs to made clear. Also, we need GOG publisher and GOG release date, I think. Extras and languages should be at the bottom, because they will potentially take up a huge amount of space.
Comp. means compatibility. Ideally there will be also extra pages that list all compatibel games later.

Should we put extras maybe out of the box into an extra section, so that we can be more detailed on those?

I agree on the rest.

Damuna: Compatibility is probably too much of a complex issue to tackle in those boxes - I'd say we should detail that in the main page body. If we're going to have a section in the info box, let's just have one and list OSes.
Maybe a Yes/No in the boxes for the quick glance and the guide, more comprhensive information in the main body ... but I'm not so sure myself ....

edit: Yeah, a list of OS would be better

this is a good idea. For this option, each plattform can be just been added. Just got an example... if sometimes Discworld will be released here, I can also add iPhone, as it runs really good on ScummVM for that mobile phone ;)

A box like that is fine, but ideally somewhere on the page should be a link to a page actually explaining what might need to be done. No need to replicate the information in the wiki.

But just saying that it can be made to work is barely anymore useful than completely ignoring the issue.

Erm, hello? I quoted you before, so I assume you saw my post. Want my help or not?

Do you mean like:
Compability: WinXP, Win7, Linux, Mac
?

Perhaps also a large table of all the games (linking to their respective pages) with columns for various platforms and then something like "Yes" for "It just works, "No" for it completely doesn't work and then other ones for, say, you can extract it and run it in DOSbox directly (as I do for all the DOSbox games).

I figured that was probably the case, but wanted my two cents as to the color of this particular bike shed. ;-)

Perhaps we should get a bit organized and dole out some assignments. It's kind of difficult to do much if we don't know what anyone else is doing right now.
