Hi!

I'm trying to put together a comprehensive GOGmix of GOG games that works on Linux.

It is available here: http://www.gog.com/en/mix/great_gog_games_that_works_on_linux

Does anyone know of any a games that is not on the list and works on Linux?
A relevant thread: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/gog_games_that_are_working_fine_with_linux_wine.
Now that's a use of the GOGMix that makes sense. Just add all the stuff from the thread that Miaghstir linked and it should be pretty good.
Thanks! I'll go ahead and add them now..

Thanks cogadh. Hopefully it'll make it easier for Linux users like myself to find games that they can play.

Also, I'd be happy if you'd vote it up ;D
You say Kingpin "runs fine in Wine" but there's a native Linux binary for it.
You might want to add Unreal Tournament 2004. There were instructions in the series forums of how to get the last linux patch working with GOG's version of the game.

I don't know about Kingpin, but some of those old linux game binaries can be rather difficult to get running on modern systems. :( Wine frequently works with less tinkering.

Linux could use a GOG service too.

And how do you make it work with the GOG version?

That's great, but this is not about finding native versions of games that GOG sells, its about running those games that GOG sells in Linux via Wine, DOSBox or ScummVM.

BTW - At least some of those links you provided are not native versions of the original games, they are ports (which may require owning the assets from the original game) or installers (which require owning the original disk version). Additionally, most of those games that are actually native versions of the games are significantly more expensive than the version that GOG offers.

While I do agree about the installers, ports have the same status as ScummVM (for example, EDuke is a better way of running DN3D than DOSBox) - the thread is about games that run on Linux, nevermind how.

Anyway, from what I can see, Rise of the Triad and HoMM 3 are ports, so I suggest paldepind adds that information.

I was able to run "Freedom Force VS The 3rd Reich" under Ubuntu 10.04 using WINE but runs not as smooth as the windows installation still a playable framerate

You are right indeed. But as hyperagathon wrote, ports that works with the GOG version of a game is just as good, in fact better. But installers or ports that doesn't work with the GOG versions does not count. For instance the Loki installers require you to own the original CD versions of games otherwise they will not work.

Anyway, I've added the native ports of ROTT and HoMM3 to the list (thanks mateo14) together with Freefom Force (thanks why420).
I see you've added Sanitarium as playable under DOSBox. I thought it was a Windows game (and Wikipedia seems to agree), what gives? Did they ship with a DOS version of the binary? Some companies did that, but in 1998 it seems unlikely.

I've also seen it listed as playable under ScummVM, but that's only half-true - it might be one day, when the Asylum engine is added to ScummVM, but for now it's neither a part of it nor is it finished.
Planescape: Torment works a treat if you set a virtual desktop in Wine. Haven't bothered tinkering with widescreen patches, though.
