Maybe a not so good idea, but I believed it was cool. I got this from the very cool games shelf feature from GOG. What do you think, GOG.com , about adding icons for the games the community buys from your catalog, that resemble the game's original retail box? I would love to have the retail boxes of ROTT, Duke3d, and games like the unreal tournament games as icons i can click on. Not the default icon, but one that looks like the box.
What do you GOG community think?
This has been requested a few times. Or at least, a downloadable copy of the box art. (Though we do have some really nice community made DVD-slip art)
I think there is a small issue with 'rights' again, as box art would have to be negotiated. Also, Different art was used for different regions.
Well you could try resizing the images off of the website and using them as your icon. That's about all I can think of.

Well, if the games themselves have been negociated, it would be easier to negociate the box art, wouldnt it? Hmm, maybe offer all the region box arts, in a cool icon file, or maybe have the corresponding regional box art icon for each of the community members' location.

Yeah, but that wouldn't be official, and they would probably be poorly done, or pixelated.

Is there a website that offers to create oldies game boxes? Game boxes meaning those 30cm x 18cm x 4cm boxes that housed games like Falcon 2.0 etc
I've got some of the best games around, that don't have boxes :(
Yeah, an actual full-scale box art scan would be more useful than just an icon -- you could also always make your own icon then from the scan.

I agree. Box art's already available on GOG (sort of, and rather gimped), but it's a good idea.
yea, T'would be sweet,
The Games Explorer icon (gfw_high.ico) already includes the shelf box, which will be used at 32x32 or higher.

Oh, you're right; well, you can always make your own with an icon editor such as SnIco Edit (free). Note that whatever icon editor you use needs to support the 32-bit color icon format introduced in XP; SnIco Edit supports this, but some programs don't.

or you could run win7 in a virtual machine and get the icons there. :D
I like most of the box art they have on here as it is, but I wouldn't mind being given a choice.
