"Good News" vibe from this?

I missed the conference but so far Galaxy sounds exactly like what I don't want.

Isn't the point of Galaxy the fact you don't have to use it? Or did I completely miss something...

If you don't want it, you don't have to use it at all ;) That is the point of the optional client. You can use GOG exactly like you do now ;)

So I really was not imagining things? :P
People have been asking for a client for years :) Just take a look:

As for me, it depends what the client offers. I trust GOG enough to use it if it has some benefits for me.

where I am, I need a downloader especially for the larger games but from here

I'm a bit worried for how long the GOG Downloader will work.

So will the existing downloader still be available and usable by those who want it and not the optional client?
It's unlikely I'll use the client but it's optional, and more options are always good.

So the GOG Downloader will continue to work then?

but it sounds like the option to use the GOG Downloader may be removed though.

The Galaxy Client will be DRM-free just like the GOG Downloader is now. Also it will offer more options for you guys, like managing your games library right from the client. We do not want to support 2 optional clients, so the Downloader will go away after the Galaxy launches.

Could you guys make sure the Galaxy client doesnt get bloated full of stuff most people dont want (both Steam and Desura clients take dog ages to open especially if u have a large library)? I must admit im surprised about the talk of achievements (you would have seen in the past on threads about this type of thing being unnecessary for many of the forumites...)
I guess they need something to keep their employees busy.

We want it as "light" and responsive as possible, we're making sure of that.

That's bad news. I don't want to install a GOG client and would have preferred to continue using the old GOG Downloader. :(

Good stuff, the other thing is - will you be providing options to disable things which users either dont want to see or dont want to use? ie use it as downloader patcher but ignore other aspects of client that might be available.
