(Bonjour all, my name is NotFrenchYet (a lady-type player) and I will be replacing Grynn. I was reading the thread on the side, but it'll evidently take me some time to go through all 400-odd posts properly to gather reads. I should point out as well that this is my second ever game of Forum Mafia, the first being the Rather Interesting game 8.

Good to be here, and I'll be back ASAP with a good dose of post analysis and newbie enthusiasm! :D )

The case against you is extremely weak, I agree. In fact, I don't really see any case at all there, which is why I'm staying out of this. There is scum on this wagon, that's for sure, and I'm willing to bet there are at least two of them pushing it, as it built up very, very quickly. That's good to know, as it's something we can build on later.

The point of claiming at L-2/1 is this: if you have information town could benefit from, and it looks that you're headed for the axe, it's better for town to tell them. Once you're dead, that information is gone forever. Also, you're in a precarious position right now, and unwillingness to claim in this customary situation might be (and probably will be) seen as scummy, effectively forcing the town's hand.

Oh, and welcome, lady-type player Frenchie, to this house of madness, and enjoy your stay.

I still feel it is key to town victory, but the point is - town can't know I'm trustworthy until I am dead or verified town by another player.

I'll wait for VItek's and nmillar's thoughts on this before I decide.

itai.sharim: This will be the last time I try dissuade you from pushing me to role claim.
I will outline my reasons below.

1. Information asymmetry - Because of the "no lying" policy, mafia players KNOW I am telling the truth, while town players do not as they might still count me as mafia. Do not be fooled by anyone who tells you that mafia players are stupid, and you can be sure that they WILL take full advantage of the asymmetry of information.

2. Consider the absurdity of some of the votes against me. Two votes are on me because of me stating that the case against nmillar is weak. The funny thing is that everyone seems to agree with me (nmillar has ZERO votes) but I still get voted for it. The third vote which is ridiculous belongs to Jefequeso who voted me for being too active (this is low, really). It all seems to me like a ploy to get a claim.

Having said that, I will comply to the town's voice of claiming if (after giving a little thought to my post) bazilisek, Vitek and nmillar still believe I should claim.

As a final note, I feel role claiming really puts the town at a disadvantage.
I agree you should claim. You are effectively at L-1 as Rob unvoted you only to prevent someone hammering you. If you were at L-2 and only barely pushed there I would be strongly against your claim as I don't think we should push people to L-2 only because we want them claim. On contrary I thik people should only claim, when there are in real danger of lynch (and not in way "I will lynch you because you don't want to claim!") to try to either save themselves or to help his faction to win game even in death.
So I think, as it doesn't seem right now that your wagon is going to die soon, that you should do it for reasons I stated above. But you should answer it for yourself, "do you think you are ygoing to be lynched?" If you think so claim can't hurt you in any way. SOmeone hinted there could be Night 0 and so you can have some results so it is in your interest to share this if you have any.

OK then. I will claim although I believe it gains nothing to town.

I am Gilberto Roja, the car salesman - town vanilla.
At this moment, my only night ability, to serve as meat shield for mafia murders has been effectively stripped away.

Also, my win condition hints there are more than one anti-town faction.

If it's one of those "you win when all anti-town factions are dead", that doesn't have to mean anything other than messing with your head. I used that in M5, and there was just town and mafia in that one.

I agree. It's simply the most general wording possible, so as not to give away any details of the setup.

Is your win condition more specific?

You appear to be confirming your township at a time when it wasn't quite appropriate for you to do so. ARGH QuadrAlien did exactly the same thing that one time! Is there any way that a mafia could know the wording of the win condition of the town? Mafia daytime win-condition cop isn't a thing is it?
