Is there a cap to how fast the GoG downloader is capable of downloading?

I seem to be stuck fluctuating between 500 KB/s to 1 MB/s, and I know my ISP cap is roughly 6 MB/s. I have nothing else running in the background, and have tried completely disabling Windows Firewall, etc.

If these are normal speeds (sadly, I don't download from GoG often enough to really remember what types of speeds are normal, though I seem to recall having no issues with the speed when downloading the Witcher 2 when it was released), then I apologize. If they're not, then any suggestions as to what the culprit could be would be welcome.

Not as far as I'm aware (unless you have something like 100MB/s speeds =P). The whole point of the downloader is the ability to download your games faster. Even with the start of the sale today and the Torchlight giveaway I had no problem getting my average 5MB/s when I downloaded Alan Wake earlier today.

Not sure what might be causing you problems.

If there is one, then it's above 10 MByte/s, seeing how I have gone just above that on my 100Mbit/s connection - getting damned near, if not hitting, the cap.

But extras seem to have some kind of cap. I've got 10 Mbit connection and installers are downloaded at 1,1 Mbyte/sec but with extras I get say: 300-400 kbyte/sec

The installers can have multiple threads, with each thread downloading at CDN's speed, but the bonus content doesn't utilize them. Thus while the installer will download at threads*speed, the bonus contents will download at speed.
If you do get a too slow download speed, pause and resume, it should hopefully pick another server to download from and give you better speed. But bonus content doesn't support resuming as I recall.

I think the reasoning was so they don't have the final hash checking at the end, which did cause quite a bit of delay. Not really sure, you should probably ask Szulak or Fallen_Zen about it.
I can confirm that while usually I get 10 MB/s downloading, today the Daedalic pack is downloading at 1,13 MB/s. Perhaps it is related to the latest version of the Downloader (it updated a couple of hours ago) or perhaps there is indeed a speed cap downloading the daily promos.
Latest version (3.5.8.0) is working at full speed again, but there are no promos today. We'll never know :D.

Yes, that's correct. Unfortunately bonus content does not contain hash and chunk data, at least yet.

We're aware of the speed problems from our CDN, hopefully they'll be resolved soon. This has nothing to do with the Downloader.

Today my download speeds are between 300 KB/ sec to 800 KB/ sec.

My ISP is Time Warner with 20Mbps up and 2 down. Wired connection. Windows 8.

I'm bought the Witcher 2 and am trying to download the 6GB REDkit modding tools that came with it.

That means about 55 to 23 hours of download time.

Think of how much server energy and resources you could save
if I could be in and out in 2 minutes instead of overnight.

It's often fairly fast. Look, just set it to download before you go to bed, then check it when you wake up. If it's not done, go to school or work a movie and check it again. There's really nothing you can do to speed up the download because the choke point isn't on your end.

That's what I did. I downloaded 54GB of games I bought in the span of 3 days.
I just left it downloading and periodically checked on each one between doing daily work.

I just figure that GOG could potentially save a lot of money on electricity and resources if users could download their games in a few minutes instead of hours or days.

I mean you save now on bandwidth per user, but pay later on energy costs of running multiple download cues for hours.

Also, it can limit the offering and downloading of larger titles like the Witcher 2 at 15GB and Assasin's Creed 1 at 5GB.

Just a thought.
