Maybe it's a corrupted download. Have you tried re-downloading it?

I posted a working version on mediafire and linked to it in the New Gog Downloader sticky at the top of page 1 of General.

Alternatively, instead of teaching users to take a potentially large security risk, you could advocate the use of a proper browser (e.g. Firefox, Chrome, Safari) instead of IE8, which seems to be among the top five reasons for the zip file not working as supposed.

You can download that file on any browser, and it works fine. Also mediafire is a reputable file host and many use it across the net with no problems.

Oh and btw the file isn't virus laden so stop being so paranoid already...several here have used my link and suffered no ill effects. I started offering it after some users couldn't download the downloader & after using it myself personally to download some games so people here could try it out until GOG fixed the official link.

I think you got me wrong there. The original download as presented by GoG itself seems to have trouble with IE8, as was pointed out in the related thread. Thus my comment to use a decent browser.

I don't blame you, or the file you link for malicious intentions, but it simply isn't good practice. If people get used to the 'oh let's just download everything by everybody' mentality they are bound to stumble sooner or later. Call it an educational matter.

1. The .1336 download works on other browsers but the .1772 download doesn't so until it does work I decided to help out.

2. Don't be so paranoid man. I think that most here know how to scan downloaded files and only DL from those they trust.

Apparently our downloader zip file got corrupted. We just uploaded a fresh, fixed, copy. Everything should work fine now, sorry for inconvenience.

Then why the bloody hell would they download from you?

Serious question... what makes you more trustworthy than anyone else on here? Fujek's views are valid. Some people don't go through the process you do, not everyone is like you, thank god.

Listen, I tried to help people out. I know we haven't always been on the best of terms but do you HAVE to be an arse to me at every damn turn?

I helped some out, and they were thankful. They weren't nasty like you or paranoid like some here seem to be. But if you want to turn a helpful and good intentioned act into something that it's not then fine. Just don't expect me to be alright with your attitude problem.

You keep saying that and I keep explaining that I'm not an arse to you at every turn. You will just never concede anyones point of view and will fight it regardless of understanding any of the points. Your world is colored by your standards and any other person is obviously wrong if they disagree.

I took exception to your remark that "only DL from those they trust" implied that you are trustworthy because people have downloaded from you before. Ignoring the fact that your are a highly offensive troll that attempts (rather poorly mind you) to find loop holes in the rules just so you can continue to be an arse (see: Your last week-long muting).

Your attitude has had other members threaten to leave. I don't understand how you can't concede your the biggest douche on GoG.

Ok, i'm sorry if I vented, but your words can come off a bit harshly worded.

I didn't mean perse that i'm trustworthy, just that people should download from other goggers and give the longer standing members a bit of trust that they won't be duped by them as well as using a bit of common sense like scanning the download before opening/etc. To say one shouldn't ever download anything from others, even fellow forum goers, because they could be trying to deceive them....to me....just reeks of paranoia. Especially as one can easily verify if a file is dangerous or not very easily these days, and while some prudence and caution is admirable and required in this day and age, it shouldn't be the be all end all go to in doing things every day.

Also again I am not a troll, and I don't always try to bend the rules here, that is your opinion not fact.....and thank you for bringing up that bit of private dirty laundry for no good reason. That was absolutely needed to bring your point across. You seem to me to enjoy lording yourself over others you deem inferior, which also sickens me.

Edit: Also to your last bit.....from seeing that those others(one only) didn't leave(and also that they didn't get punished for similar rule breaking) it is obvious that was just a stunt pulled to leverage power from the modding staff for one's own reasons and nothing more, and that the mods are prone to mob influences.

As for me i'm out of here.....it's obvious you're just attempting to bait me into getting in trouble and i'm not going to take the bait this time.

Work for a semi big MMORPG and deal with multiple 'hacked' accounts a day that almost always (read 99.9999%) turn out as 'what, you mean that cheat/tool/map/file I downloaded got me into trouble?/my best friend that I shared accounts betrayed me!' and we'll talk about 'paranoia' again.

Judging by the amount of people using utilities with a harsh security risk (some even still use IE 6!) I'm not this convinced, though I'd generally agree that this community is an exception in most points and more technically experienced than the average on-line group.

I concur some caution is necessary, but again this is the official file gog provided, not some hack or trainer, and I also cautioned people to check it through their virus scanner of choice in a few cases before using.....all in all I really did mean to help people. And it isn't even needed now anyways that it's been fixed....thank god. :)

Also yeah Gog definately has some smart cookies in the shed...but those that use IE6? Well, I guess there's no accounting for taste, eh?
