It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Midiboy: I'm having an issue too. I bought The Witcher 2 and that worked just fine (up until the last part that isn't available yet anyway), but for my free game, I selected Gothic 2. I keep getting told that there is a problem with the file and to contact GOG via a link. So I do that, write up my message and get a note saying that my message will appear in about 5 minutes. It's been 2 hours and it still hasn't appeared. So I am posting here in hopes someone sees it.

Thank you!
Having the exact same problem...dl'ed The Witcher 2 with no problem but cant get past 40MB of Gothic 2 before the download fails. I've put in a support ticket but still nothing.

anc: Hi,
I'm having a weird problem, if i leave my pc idle the GOG downloader stop the download. I tried to leave my pc on in the night to download the witcher and in the morning when i went back to check, it had stoped almost at the same percentage that i left when i went to bed.

This happened before too, always that i left the pc idle it stops the download.

How do i fix it?

Best regards

irondog: Have you made sure your computer isn't going to sleep? The default for mine is to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity. If that's the problem, you can fix it in Control Panel under Power Options (in Win7 anyway).
anc said that hibernate and sleep are disabled.

I don't have a great ISP/connection, but download rate was steady.

anc, is screen saver disabled? Do you leave monitor on? That has helped me in past.

I hope you find a solution!
I have a problem. I can log inn and all that. But i cant get the game to show up in the downloader? Hmm, someone can help me?
I can log into the down-loader, but I can't download any of the games, it keeps saying that the game link is invalid and wont let me open it from either Firefox or explorer. Any one els have this problem?

I also have a problem with the downloader, it seems to be downloading but the actual downloader window doesn't show up anywhere not even in the task bar, anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?
It's all good I solved it, if you have the same problem, just open up your task manager and end the GOGDownloader process, and you can re open it again.

Suggestion: After running the downloader for the first time, make it so that it adds GOG as a game provider in Games Explorer.
Illogical problems with Gog Downloader - any suggestion welcome...
I can sign into Gog.com with my ID and password but GogDownloader reports my email or password is wrong - but only just stopped working today.... GRrrrr 20% through downloading 8Gb game (witcher 1)

Yeah I was fine before, but now am unable to log in to the downloader. It keeps saying my password is wrong. I'm positive I'm using the right password, I just logged out of the site and back in again with that password. 80% done downloading tw2 here.
So I just downloaded the installer and everything seemed to be working fine. I was able to log in and add a game to download (The Witcher) and it started to download... great!

...but now I've noticed that it seems it will download 12MB at max speed... then drop to zero for a few minutes... then grab another 12MB or at max speed and then drop to zero again. This happens if the downloader is minimized or sitting full focus.

A download that should only take a couple of hours is going to take me several days or a week if this keeps up.

Any thoughts on this?? Thanks.

nissa: - why didn't GOG downloader auto-update itself, like it usually does (if I recall correctly) ?
avatar
Destro: it will be added later on, with the next major version ready. Right now you can minimize it to tray and click "Check for update" manually.

avatar
nissa: - why are the downloads so sloooooooooow now ? It makes me cringe to have to wait 30 minutes for a 1 GB download (Arcanum), expecting the Witcher 2 (which I have pre-ordered) to be much more consequential size.
avatar
Destro: well it shouldn't be like that, majority of users who tried the new downloader report a noticeable increase of speed... By default, the downloader should use 6 simultaneous threads to download every file (while web browsers use just 1) and you can edit this value via Options screen. Now, depending on your connection, this might be not enough or actually too much. In theory starting from 2 connections and above you should see some increase of download speed, however at some value this might start backifing due to the number of concurrent connections openned, so don't get tempted to set it to max if 6 is causing your download speed to decrease.
I got the downloader working again to my satisfaction. The download speed is also back to what I was used to, so I guess it was only a temporary issue on my side.

Thank you for your patience, and advice in the matter. It's very much appreciated.

I am currently downloading TW2, and can't wait to taste some DRM-free Witcher goodness on May the 17th!

Sending you my best regards ^.^
I've tried running all the download options 1-10 with no effect. I've noticed that it's not 12MB though... but one "chunk" which is 10,240KB.

It will download one of those at max and then drop to zero. I'm currently stuck at 62MB of 8.5GB.... and the downloader hasn't grabbed anything for over 5min. Restarting the downloader doesn't help either.

I guess I'll just download via my browser and hope I don't drop a connection.
Yeah, I couldn't get the Downloader to work at all for Gothic 2. It kept getting to 40MB then going back to 21, counting up to 40, then back to 21, etc. I then bypassed the downloader and just used Firefox to download the file, and it took 25 minutes to download the 2GB file that is Gothic 2. The funny thing is, the Downloader worked great for Witcher 2.

Miaghstir: There's got to be some system setting on how to associate protocols with an application (that decides which application to open when you click on a link starting with mailto:, http:, ftp: whatever:... and in this case gogdownload:). The earlier version didn't use a protocol association but instead repeatedly queried a web service or database if there were any updates to your download list.

An easier solution might be to install the Windows version of a web browser under Wine, since it'll probably pick up the URL association registered by the GOG Downloader.

H2O2: First download the new Windows only GOGDownloader.exe from GOG. Make sure Wine is installed with all of it's Deps. Move the GOGDownloader.exe file to ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files. notice the .wine folder is hidden so first make hidden files visible for your Distro (on Fedora 13 KDE just press the Alt+. keys). Once you have moved the Downloader I would strongly recommend that you put an underscore in the Program_Files name so you don't have trouble with the Linux CLI seeing it as two separate files this is also the name I used in the bash script.

Now open Kwrite or a Text Editor of your choice, and copy/paste the two lines of text into the editor. This creates a Bash Shell Script when saved.

#!/bin/bash
wine /drive_c/Program_Files/GOGDownloader.exe $1

Save this in a Folder of your choice as "gogdownloader.sh" (I would recommend a new GOG Folder in your Home Directory)
Go to the GOG folder now or wherever you put the script. Open a terminal there and paste in the following code.

~]$ chmod +x gogdownloader.sh (Makes the script executable)

I'm gambling here that most Linux users browse with Firefox if not you will probably have to use an alternative method to set the Protocol.

We need to tell FF where to look for an App to match the gogdownloader protocol For Firefox 3.5 & Above

Open Firefox
Type about:config into the Location Bar (address bar) and press Enter.
Right-click -> New -> Boolean -> Name: network.protocol-handler.expose.gogdownloader -> Value -> false
Next time you click a link of the gogdownloader protocol you will be asked which application to open it with, browse to your GOG folder & open it and click on the gogdownloader.sh script and hopefully everything should work fine

There are of course other methods of setting the protocol as has been shown here by another member but I think this one is a little more painless

Thanks are owed to MozillaZine from whom I shamelessly pillaged the above info.
Thanks for your help, but it still doesn't work (doesn't associate the gogdownloader with a program).
But luckily I've managed to use Flashget with Kget - it's not always works, but at least it's "workable".

GOG - please fix your downloader, I can't login (use) the old one, and the new one is not Linux friendly.
You know you do have many Linux users who buy games from GOG... so please support us at least for the downloader.
