will try this and let you know , a user made downloader could be the magic solution but still prefer a similar system used by blizzard to handle huge games

tried it many times, different ways..............just does not work with windows 7 xps.......i told them to take the 10 bucks and buy themselves a couple of 'pints'

Credit where it's due, I got the beta downloader to work and the file was okay. It was a close-run thing; when it finished the memory leak had consumed 861 megs for an 899 meg file and I was running out of system memory. That's not a leak, that's the Titanic vanishing beneath the waves.

I'm gonna put a note in the tickle file to check in six months to see if the user experience has changed here. In the meantime, T.G.I.F.!

It's weird how people have so much problems with the GOG downloader. I'm a Mac user and all the games that I have downloaded has been with the GOG downloader and all have work perfectly, including all the D&D games, psychonauts, master of magic, age of wonders, alien shooter, arcanum.

I hope they fix this for everyone else because it is a neat downloader if it runs like it's supposed to.

For those having the problem I had earlier, I MIGHT have figured out the problem. Maybe. If you look in %Appdata%\Adobe\AIR\ there is a ELS and a CRLCache folder where they seem to be storing some data. (The ELS may be the actual installed program even, but I'm not really sure.) When I uninstalled the GOG.com downloader, the files remained in these two directories. In the interest of a truly clean reinstall, I removed both of these. The only problem is, I did a complete reinstall. I removed AIR and the GOG downloader, redownloaded each, and reinstalled each as well as doing this, so it's hard really to be absolutely sure that this is the fix. Still, it might explain it if perhaps GOG updated or changed something significant and these cached files were no longer correct. Anyway, those experiencing the same problem might try doing this and seeing if it helps.


I still don't understand why they couldn't have used Java even. Java is a mess, but at least it's a "standard" mess that follows "normal" rules. (Eg no weird files thrown around everywhere and etc.) It's massively inefficient, but for something as simple as a downloader it's fine. (It's just something really complex such as, oh, say Minecraft, where Java is among the worst possible programming languages someone could ever choose from...) It's probably not a coincidence that one of the big torrent downloaders has always used Java. (And speaking of which, I do think they should follow the example of MMO services and use some sort of P2P downloader. This could be easier on their servers and of course would do pieces and hash checks such that corrupted downloads would be a think of the forgotten past.)

EDIT: I can confirm that deleting the files in those two folders fixes the blank window problem. Temporarily. It happened again just now, so it seems this is only a temporary fix. I deleted those files again and again the blank window went away. I suspect it will be back the very next time I run the downloader. At least a temporary fix that's annoying to deal with is better than no fix at all I guess.

I'm having a problem with the GOG downloader window being invisible. The downloader used to work for a while, but after some (possibly unrelated) problems with a corrupt download it's simply not showing the main window anymore.

Despite being invisible, the downloader is working, however. I can see its icon in the task bar when I start it, and when I add a download to the queue from the GOG website, it actually downloads the file. I can even see a little preview of the downloader's window when I hover over the task bar icon. It's like the downloader's window is permanently minimized with no way to restore/maximize it. So while the downloader is technically functional, I find this issue a bit annoying.

I am running Windows 7, 32 bit. I have removed the downloader and Adobe Air, rebooted and reinstalled both, but to no avail.

Wow, that did the trick! Awesome, thanks a lot for your help. Apparently the downloader window's default position had been moved to someplace outside the visible desktop area or something...

I'm having a strange issue with my GOG downloader as well. I have tried reinstalling both the downloader and adobe AIR but the problem persists.

When I run the downloader, nothing comes up. In the task manager, the downloader appears in the processes but there is no icon in the taskbar and there is no window. I tried running it in compatibility mode and as administrator but that doesn't fix it either.

Glad I checked this before TW2, because I'd rather use the downloader than try to download 20GB through my browser.

EDIT: Never mind. Seems like a restart of my computer fixed the problem. Should've checked that before tbh.

Alright Im getting annoyed. I just downloaded the game neverwinter nights on the regular downloader to see if it would work. Right when i downloaded it it already has come up with "The setup files are corrupt, please download a new copy of the game". Can someone please give me an idea of what to do with this. I tried in on the official gog downloader and it is bugged as well. wtf is up with neverwinter nights, this game wouldnt work on a cd and now it wont even work here. Bioware has done it again.

well it looks like i am downloading but i can not install what i download so something is not working

I had the same issue in not automatically starting a gogdownloader install. I copied the 2 mb (exe file) while using the internet downloader; saved that with the other 2 files and ran the programm. Problem solved...

Seems like this whole deal could be much easier if they'd enable resuming on browser downloads. Would enable the use of most download accelerators, and make the whole process quicker and easier.

And, I have to agree with the above poster...why not just use JAVA? It's standard, at least--and, Adobe Air bites wind, along with most of their other overly bloated, too slow pieces of software.
