The thread (with download links) can be found here.

This is the old version which only does the auto-resume, not the version checking. I didn't get any positive feedback, but did get some negative feedback (in another thread), even though I explicitly said it wasn't anything like what I had envisioned, it was just hacked together quickly to help those who had bad/slow connections (that's what you get for trying to help I suppose :P)

As I explained to Barefoot_Monkey, no positive feedback + it requiring far more time and effort on my part to make the downloader for everyone else = I programmed it to do what I want and left it at that (my version does version checking/auto-library updating too but is unreleased).

So yeah, don't expect a GUI or anything "user-friendly" (It won't hold your hand, but I think it is simple enough to use/understand). The code was kept really simple so I could finish it quickly :P

If interest re-surfaces, I'll continue the work on the "full" version but for now, I regard that project as finished.

Mark me down for interested, a library updater and version checker is exactly what i need...

as it stands every 3-6 months i re download every game just to "make sure" i have the latest version and do a lengthy backup and integrity check on all my files.

Id love to have everything in one program so i could save myself a lot of trouble.

I don't want to strain the servers that GOG has but i have literally no choice to make sure i have the latest versions since there is no outward signs of an update.

damn they need to rework on this downloader. Im trying to download the kings bounty legend for the third time, the first time i used the gog downloader it downloaded the files but when i try to install the integrity check fails says the files are corrupt, so i tried to download them again using the browser, the downloading stopped at 64% :( now i am trying it again using a download manager hope i complete this time, cant they use the torrent style the blizzard games downloader uses? it works so great, even the humble bundle used a similar thing it worked out great

in short the downloader should have an option to check the files downloaded to see if there is anything missing but it does not :(

crap the download manager failed too :( the setup reports the bin file is corrupt
will wait till there is a better solution :(

Using flash or adobe is a pure masochism from a consumer point of view.

I recommended to the devs that they somehow would make a tracker on their page and use torrent technology and thus, people who have already downloaded the game can help seed for others. This would drastically decrease downloads speed (if people leave it to seed when they can) as well as make it hassle free as I assume all downloads are identical considering there's no DRM. To ensure people continue to seed either use the ratio system which would mean if you don't seed you will not be able to download in a soon future and/or perhaps create a reward for someone that seeds a lot e.g. price cut (I know it's already dirt cheap but what else?) or perhaps some special content like screenshot, artwork, trailer or movie of something. :)

seconded the current system is a nightmare specially for games larger than 2gb

I'm having lots of issues with the downloader too...
Corrupted files, failure to start... If only they would let us use our own download managers, it would be a HUGE step forward, but I agree that a torrent system is the ideal soultion.

Is it possible to download more than one game at a time with the GOG downloader? I know we can have more than one game LISTED in the downloader, but it seems it's only possible to download one game at a time. Is this correct or are there ways of having multiple downloads?

Edit - I just tried it out again and it seems that it can start up now without freezing, but as soon as it attempts to download a game, it gives an error message and freezes. I wonder if it's because of windows 7. Oh well, i'll maybe try an older version sometime to see if it helps, atleast i can manually download games just fine. =)

I love GOG but yeah, the downloader isn't that great. I understand it's a work in process but now it just flat out doesn't work on my computer.

Just wanted to pop my head in and say that even though I've only bought two games here so far, I've downloaded one of them twice (Psychonauts), one once (Baldur's Gate) and all three downloads (all done with the downloader) have been corrupt :(

$10 is pretty cheap for a reminder of a lesson that could have cost much more another time: NEVER buy ANYTHING without going onto the associated Web forum and finding out

1) the ratio of satisfied to dissatisfied customers,
2) the specifics of "this works for me" / "that never works for me",
3) very important, the behaviour of the flak-catchers and/or admins.

What I see here is a huge population of people who feel they've been defrauded after trying everything repeatedly; a number of people with fat pipes and luck who can't figure out what the fuss is about because they've tried the same stuff and it works for them; and a total absence of adult supervision -- even the usual forum-purging and snotty cheerleaders are totally missing.

Classic presentation of a message board for a failed, broken product. Did I check it out before I plunked down my $10? No. Have I gotten $10 worth of a valuable reminder of a basic rule of thumb? I suppose so. Caveat emptor.
