Well, I only installed AIR for the first time to try and use the downloader, so I don't think that's it. I'll uninstall, reinstall and see if that helps.

Not sure if this gets mentioned a lot, but it'd be nice if the GOG downloader automatically opened when you click on the "Download with GOG downloader" link. It just adds it to the list for the next time you manually open it, but that seems counter-intuitive. It'd be like clicking to download something through a browser and then having to separately open the browser's download window before anything starts.

Also, it would be good you could install (i.e. run the setup) from the downloader rather than having to then open the GOG download location separately. A little thing but something other download managers have (even the default browser ones) and something that you take for granted.

I agree with that. Half the time I just end up d/l through my browser b/c it is faster and instantaneous. Of course then I just have to pray my internet doesn't decide to go out.

Do you use IE? I'm pretty sure that Firefox and Opera can resume downloads if the server allows it. In that sense, the GOG downloader is worse than Firefox or Opera in every sense; it doesn't start automatically and you can't just double click on a finished download to install it, whereas you can in a browser.

As stated above, resuming does not work from GOG servers for security reasons. A particular download token you get when starting a download is only valid once. You'll have to restart from the beginning if the connection resets or the browser crashes.

However, downloads do start automatically for me in GOG Downloader.

I generally use Opera but for some reason tend to have issues when resuming the download (any download). It doesn't so much *resume* as it does *start all over.* At least the GOG D/Ler starts back up where it left off when I tell it to resume.

I wish GOG would permanently fix the downloader problem.
IMHO the real problem is basing it on Adobe Air, which seems to have stability problems that never end.

Actually, resuming does work from the GOG servers. My "XGOG Downloader" works fine.

It has a queue of downloads to do and check (which is automatically updated every night or can be triggered to update manually). It goes through the queue and downloads (or resumes downloading) anything I haven't downloaded yet (by priority) and then when it has nothing else to do, it checks I have the latest version of everything and re-downloads as appropriate.

I just leave it running on my server and it makes sure everything is downloaded and up to date. Fire and forget.

This was also going to be a feature of XGOG Downloader... chunked hashes which were checked against the network of other XGOG Downloaders so your client only had to download only the corrupt chunk. Similar to how BitTorrent works, but downloads only from the GOG servers (not inter-client).

That might be the reason why it works. People who report that resuming doesn't work probably had to resume because they lost their Internet connection. The download tokens are probably bound to your IP, so if you have to reconnect and get a new dynamic IP, you have to request a new token. Maybe a download manager that allows you to resume even if the address of the file has changed would work?

When I say XGOG Downloader works fine, I mean I can unplug the ethernet connection in the middle of the download, plug in my mobile broadband and connect to that instead and the download resumes without a hitch. It has nothing to do with your IP, the XGOG Downloader just handles the resume properly for GOG's setup (and it doesn't require anything particularly special either, it does literally just request the original download URL again, not the one you are redirected to, to get a new token/download url).

And by server, I mean a machine less than a foot away from my desktop machine. Not one in a data-center or anything like that.
