It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

eyeball226: Very true, I'm also surprised that they upsetting their customers. However, I still feel that these people do have a swollen sense of entitlement. Yes, they should fix the downloader, but people should stop bitching about it as if GOG has ripped them off. It isn't GOG's fault that your connection craps out.
No it's not GoG's fault they have a crappy connection, but it's GoG's fault there is not a robust way to download their games. And these people have paid their hand earned cash for these games, of course they have a sense of entitlement! People have bought games, and now can't download them because a feature is removed. You could argue that's ripping off your customers.
But they can download them, that's my point. They paid their cash for these games and in no way is GOG stopping them downloading their games. The downloads are robust from GOG's end, it's the user's connection that is the weak link in the chain.

I just made a guide showing how to use getright to download from GOG. If that doesn't work for you, it's not GOG's fault.

I have Free download Manager installed (with its firefox plugin) and it works perfectly for all my GOG games. When you click 'download with browser' in your GOG account, the Free Download Manager window will come up; however, you need to click 'advanced' and select only 1 'section' as for these secure downloads you can't have multiple strands. This works perfectly for me and I am downloading Septerra Core like this as I speak. I find this way is better than the old GoG.com dowloader anyway.

I hope this helps you guys who are having trouble downloading your games.

I paid for the games because and only because of the excellent downloader. I am in the middle of nowhere afghanstan with a satellite dish. So no downloader no more purchases. If the site would of given a warning that the downloader was going down soon, I would of gotten the games I wanted and then waited while they enhanced thier product. But this site obviously doesn't believe in giving a heads up or in any way giving good customer service.

I'm in the same boat, downloading on steam over here takes like 2 weeks. Downloading on GOG with the downloader is only a day or two. I'm not mad at them, tech problems happen. I just wish they would have let us know as soon as they recognized there was an issue, or at least updated us on the progress toward a fix .

eyeball226: Just successfully resumed a download in getright. When you resume and it says '403 - Forbidden' it even asks if you want to change the URL...
I haven't been using getright in ages (since when I had a dial-up modem back then), good to know it's still there... but it's commercial program - I don't want to use ad-supported version or pay $20 to download game for $3 while gog did indeed had a nice downloader already...

... or if you still think that downloader is unnecessary, tell that to blizzard and valve, so that they can make World of Warcraft and any Steam game downloadable only through one-time HTTP links (preferably using IE) :>
avatar
eyeball226: The fact they they may have a poor connection is not GOG's fault. If they can't download things then they shouldn't buy from DD companies. Simple as that. How to resume downloads has been explained many times in this thread. The downloader was just a little bonus. Where did they say that the downloader would be supported forever?

BrutalBeast: So your theory on why the downloader hasn't been fixed is that GoG is inconveniencing many of their customers on purpose and therefore have no reason to even fix it. And that's somehow the customers fault and instead of complaining they should be thanking GoG.
I don't know how you got this out of that post, but hey, maybe it's just over my head.

Yes... the subtleties must be lost on us plebs.
I guess I overreacted, but the image I got from "Where did they say that the downloader would be supported forever?" was that you thought they did this on purpose. The "your bad connection isn't GoGs fault" gave me the image that you thought the customer was somehow to blame for all this and the "you can't download without the downloader, don't use GoG" was in my opinion just stupid considering the downloader was one of the selling features of the GoG Beta where many people bought the games.

Something like "you are not entitled to the service you paid for (in the beta)" now accept it already and stop complaining they made a stupid mistake while upgrading the site and have since given out no information whether there are even plans of it being fixed.

Really? Man, I'm dying without it. I used to use it just for fun, but I moved to a small town with awful internet and now browser downloads are dangerous. I was thinking about finding a Chrome download manager, but if it's going to be fixed in the next couple of days that would be amazing... I need to download and play some of my new games!

He had said the end of the week........However, It's now 7pm on a Friday night in Poland so, I am guessing next week. (it was Thursday afternoon when I got the email which is why I am thinking it will be next week)

I'll reply to his email perhaps they could update everyone here rather then replying to each person asking about it.

I'm sure that would be much appreciated by almost everybody here. Unfortunately communication does not seem to be the strongest point of the new, perfect GOG.

I just tried this, and I was able to get to 99%, but then it froze on that and kept giving me the error "10:21:14 PM 10/8/2010 Access denied. Invalid user name or password". I also get to 99% with the default Chrome and Explorer downloders before it freezes there and never completes.

I have been unable to try the GOG Downloader, because for the life of me I can't find an "add to downloader" option on the My Account page.
