Hi, i'm new here. I recently purchased Masters of Magic and I been really wanting to record it.

After some messing around and looking around for answers, I at the very least learned how to make FRAPS recognize Masters of Magic so I could actually record it.

However, the second I turn on FRAPS, gameplay becomes very choppy, even more choppy than when I play modern games.

So then I read that DosBox has it's own recording system using CTRL + ALT + F5. I figured this was the answer, but 2 problems arise.

1) I can't tell if it's recording or not.
2) Where in the world do videos go when being recorded?

Here is the thing, when i load up the game, it obviously has the dosbox logo in a window before it goes to the loading game screens and whatnot, so i figure maybe along with downloading this, it gave me DosBox as well, only obvious to think that. But doing even a simply search for "Dos" or "Dosbox" no files show up.

What am I doing wrong? What more info do you need that can help?
I'm on Mac and have no DOSBox games installed right now to test this, but IIRC:
1. You would need to disable the -noconsole or some such line in the game's shortcut (right-click, properties) and run the game in a window to be able to tell whether DOSBox is recording or not.
2. I believe the videos appear in the game's folder in the dosbox folder, or in a video sub-folder therein.

well i found the video sub folder, thank you for pointing that out

so i was able to record the video, but now I ran into another problem, commentary. I plan on doing commentary with these videos. Recording video does not record audio recordings you make with a mic and such.

What would you suggest to be done?
You'd have to use a separate program to simultaneously record video and mic input, which is pretty much how all LPers make their videos, and what it sounds like you're going for. Or you can use a video editing program to add voice-over narration later on, with the additional benefit of being able to edit the video as you see fit. I don't use any such software, but maybe someone else can chime in with some recommendations.
