Just tell me how to delete my account and my credit card info and I won't bother any of you again. It's not worth the aggravation.
They don't store your credit card info. There is nothing to delete.

You sure you don't want to give it another try ? I have 100+ games on GOG, and all of them worked, except for those that my shitty PC can't run.

I find the above very sad. Ok - your credit details are not kept EVER.

If by "aggravation" you mean taking the time to ask for help, and doing a small amount of investigation yourself, then I don't have much sympathy. We WILL try and help you the best we can, but you seem more intent on dismissing us. You are coming across like a typical windows user - or i should say more correctly, how Microsoft believe that every user needs their hands holding all the time. I have 90ish games from GOG and have not come across 1 that i cannot get to run on Windows OR nix.

Give us a chance perhaps ?

I think you've just had an unlucky start. There are some games which require a bit of tinkering to get working but 90% of them have worked "out of the box" even for me - and I am not very computer-savvy at all. It definitely is something you didn't have to worry about in the past though : I can't think of a single game I bought between 1998 (the year I bought my first PC) and 2002 which didn't work immediately. GOG is the best place to download games from for various reasons, in my opinion, but basically being a gamer in 2013 sucks compared with being a gamer in the veritable "good old days" of gaming, for various reasons.

bill1701a: My best friend praised this website and it's content.

Honest question - Does your best friend praise GOG based on him surfing the site and its content? Or does he based on his experience with games he purchased, installed and played?
Ian, I did give it a chance. In fact, I gave it money for a game that doesn't play. My PC is no barn-burner, but it is 6 months old and I've played the new Diablo on it with nary a hiccup. Runs fine with full frame rate and lots of action.

But the Support link says: try updating all your drivers, and if that doesn't work, try reinstalling DirectX, and if that doesn't work, try disabling your virus protection software, and if that doesn't work, ad infinitum. I'm surprised it hasn't told me to reinstall my operating system or buy a new PC. My PC is not some Heintz 57 I assembled with duct tape and bailing wire. It is a decent home system that should work fine for playing these OLD games. I shouldn't have to disassemble my PC or play "Tweak 20,000" in order for it to play a game that GOG says runs on Windows.

Hyper, my friend praised GOG because he has downloaded and is playing Baldur's Gate 1 & 2. So, obviously, THAT game works. I see a lot of games here I played in the 90s and would love to revisit. But I'm not paying for software that won't run or that just locks up my computer requiring Task Manager to shut it down.
I didn't have a problem with any of my GOG games until my 8th purchase : Desperados 2. This game will still not work for me and I've uninstalled and forgotten about it for now. The next problem I had was with purchase no.24, Commandos 2+3, or specifically Commandos 3 (Commandos 2 works if you run as administrator), which again will just not work regardless of which solutions I try, though perhaps I missed something or haven't looked at the forums recently. The only other GOG games which have given me an inordinate amount of trouble are Nox and Master of Orion 1. I think I may know the solution for MoO1, however, thanks to the forums, so perhaps it doesn't deserve to be on my blacklist. Other games which I would at present consider to be unplayable without tinkering include Tomb Raider (controls, lack of music) and maybe its sequels (though they seem to run okay actually). As computers continue to become more complex and different these problems will continue to arise, seemingly. It was certainly a lot more straightforward and trouble-free to be a gamer a decade or so and before that.

Without knowing the game, if it is old, install directx 9.0c. The newest isn't backward compatible.

I am glad you did :)

Ok 1st install the game NOT on C: (if u have more than 2 drives) - if not then outside of "program files"

Run it as "admin" - right click, properties etc

try turning off UAC, as it can be a pain.
That's an interesting point. The few times my I have had trouble with games (and every time support has been quick to help) was not because my computer was too old or slow but rather because it was too new and fast.

The games you originally mention work too, something is conflicting with them on your system.

Sometimes PC games, especially older ones, will need a bit of tweaking. Like it or not, it happens to all of us.
UPDATE - just installed Unmechanical (Win 8, 64 bit) to my "E" drive. Then before I ran the game, I installed the update as well. I tried to launch the game from the installer - it didn't work. I double clicked the icon on the desktop and it launched and ran ok, played for a few mins with no probs.
