IAmSinistar: Too bad there isn't a polling function for threads. I would be quite curious to know how many folks here pronounce GOG as the word "Gog" and how many, like the actual GOG staff, pronounce it as the letters "Gee-Oh-Gee". I'm guessing that has something to do with one's perception of the site as well. I say it as the word "Gog", so the old acronym doesn't occur to me as often as someone who says it as the letters, I'm betting.
A well a everybody's heard about the gog
g-g-g-gog gog gog g-gog's the word.
Yes, I pronounce gog as the word "gog", not the letters "gee-oh-gee". It's also funny that, despite all linguistic differences and all the wide phonetic perceptions of the distinct people from the various countries that come here, saying gog as a word and not as an acronym would work wonderfully, as it seems it's pronounced universally the same way, "gawg" (damn you, English speakers, and your awkward phonetic-to-orthographic system! XD ). It's kind of its own brand, sounds the same in pretty much every language, it's easy to remember and associate with what it is.
I also don't think they should create a new acronym for it. Gog works well for what it is: gog. If people still associate it with the old "Good Old Games" name, I don't see what's so wrong with that. It's one of the things gog excels at, and they should be proud to be deemed
the place to go, in order to get your classic games fix. I never came across anyone asking me what does gog stand for, maybe it has something to do with me actually saying "gog" and not "gee-oh-gee", it could be, but maybe it also has to do with the fact I try to explain gog nevertheless, even if people don't ask me. Which would lead me to the conclusion that all this "confusion" is actually a good thing, as it gets us talking more about gog and spreading the word around.
