AlexY: I understood it as 3 sooner - 2 later. Alright, 3 publishers for sure, then.
Now we play the guessing game(and god help anyone who complains about the hype when those publishers are announced....i'll smite them with my +1 sword of unholy smiting, I say!

LOL! Point is, some are going to love and some hate. As I said, I am not particularly loyal to GOG or to Steam for tha matter, I'll buy the games from whoever has them, but what keeps me here is the fact that they are DRM free, so that is a feather in their caps.

No problemo........at least your non loyalty allows you to be bipartisian/as non biased as possible, which is awesome.

Some of the people defending GOG after their new PR stunt are missing the point. We are not complaining because we don't like what GOG announced today, but because they intentionally used misleading marketing to fool people into expecting something awesome that turned out to be little more than hot air (The Witcher 2, the new downloader etc. don't count because they were not part of the tease).

The GOG marketers knew exactly what they were doing by releasing these mysterious clues on the front page -- namely getting people to get each other all excited and to expect that EA or LucasArts would join GOG. Please don't insult our intelligence by pretending otherwise.

Don't waste my time is all I'm asking, basically. Your announcements are interesting enough, there is no need to create hype and false expectations. I happen to like this place, but cheap PR stunts only serve to erode the sympathy I feel towards GOG.
I too don't see the problem with bazilisek's post. The fact is that GOG kept on talking about the BIG day, what were we supposed to think? Atari and Witcher could have been a normal Tue or Thu news release.

Only sad thing for me is now I gotta wait through many weeks of Atari releases *sigh* *bored* before they are even gonna think of announcing the next publisher!

Hopefully it won't be too long though....after all, Gog DID say they have 25 games from the first big publisher to release and i'm guessing they want to get them out ASAP to draw in the funds and crowds. :)

Yeah, this.

I'm obviously glad GOG got more Atari-games, but along with everyone else I was expecting that to happen anyway. I was TBH more excited with the FunBox-signing (largely because the two releases were surprising(!) and very promising).

The press conference in itself was cool, but all that hinting and hyping beforehand was a bit much, considering that only two of the questions GOG asked were actually answered, and the fact that the most exciting piece of news from the press conference didn't have anything to do with the hints at all...

Looking forward to seeing what new games we get, anyway. Hopefully they are worth the hype. :-)

I'm also looking forward to the new releases...........oh the possibilities.

Goodness.

I personally do not see the major problem here, or see the conference as something worth getting on GOG's case for. People are criticizing them for hyping things up to a massive degree, but as mentioned before, we are all to blame. We let our imaginations run wild with speculation, and got our hopes up a great deal. Taking a look at the news page, it only says "revealing cool stuff," not a publisher. We let ourselves get out of control, imho.

Still though, I walked away from the conference happy. They showed five major publishers who are they are working hard with to get games on here. One of which we know for sure is signed, and two more are extremely likely later in the year. 25 games from one of those publishers will be arriving shortly. I am excited to see which ones.

I went in expecting a publisher announcement as well, and even though it wasn't named, I am not sure how we can be disappointed in GOG. Obviously some great stuff is on the way, and they are simply teasing us a bit longer. Personally, it was fun speculating, even if it means I may not be getting TIE Fighter or Dungeon Keeper anytime soon, but maybe I will, who knows! Still holding out hope

I think if there is anything to be learned by GOG tonight (today for some), it's that a huge majority of goggers think that the hype was a bit over the top and slightly misleading. I hope this is discussed at your their management meeting.

No, what they learned is to stop letting hype get the better of them after so many times getting disappointed. Go cynacism!

As has already been stated, the problem a lot of folks have is that they fee that GOG knew full and well the kind of specualtions that would be made when they released the clues. Just check the one thread out that's 15 pages of people saying it was LA. Sure we let our minds run wild, but me thinks they were counting on that so that we would all be on the site at the time of aanouncemet.

Whoa but this has been an exciting night on the forums ya all, as for me I'm off to bed. Laterzzz.....

Not to be the guy that brings "that event" up, but it seems to me that they didn't learn much of anything from all the backlash for the site shutdown last fall, as evidenced by the misleading hype this time. I had hoped they would realize that some hype is good, but hype that potentially deceives your customers is bad. That fact was made very plainly obvious to them once before and granted, what they did this time cannot even compare to the shitstorm the shutdown created, but it still seems to me that they did not learn their lesson.
