I have to admit I was a little bit disappointed. I, like many here, am extremely excited about have 3 of the 5 shown publishers putting their products here before Sept. The thing that irks me though, is that I expected answers to the questions that were put forth, particularily since they had a video announcement. I feel this would have been a glorious chance to tell us all about it, excite new users and put an end to some of the speculation.

If GOG was going to keep us guessing up until may about their weekly releases then maybe they could've released a question right after the day's release and keep me thinking for the week about the next one. As it is now by the time the 3rd or 4th release comes I'll have already forgotten the releated question and everything will feel like a normal release to me anyway.

Good to see the updates coming for the site and more details re: the Witcher event.

Overall, very exciting indeed. I do hope to see some more of these "press conferences" in the future, I do enjoy them.

I cant believe ANYONE has gotten into the hype machine, considering gog's past with hype.
I certainly did not get into it at all.

Using hype to build up an event where you build more hype for another event is crappy.

And I don't give them a pass on the announcement of another publisher, because we still haven't seen who that publisher is. Could be some shitty company like codemasters... lol.. you mean they already have them? Oh, ok... n/m

I have to agree that I think this was just another publicity stunt, to try and get as many people as they could to the site to watch the live stream and *maybe make alot of sales on Alone In The Dark and perhaps some other titles*. It was overhyped, and I agree with the the thread starter that obviously they would have known people were expecting or at least hoping for EA or LA.

Imho you are whining.

They did conference and they told us:

1) about how good this year it was to GOG (and this is important information to us, because this shows GOGs potential, GOG is going well = we have more and more classic games onboard)

2) that this year we got new games from Activision and Ubisoft, and we are going to get new games from Atari - this is important because as much as we should be happy those publishers are here, there are tons of unreleased games they still have rights to, and this shows that GOG works hard to get them all here.
There aren't many games that fit the description of "classic" the way Alone in the Dark does. And the Witcher 1 for 5$? I'll get this one just for completeness of my GOG rpgs games. Not to mention there are still 5 more games from Atari coming.

Last, but not least, it's not the GOG who did the hype - it's us, they just announced games. Do you really believed they will announce EA just like that without big stunt? No countdown, no leaks to the press? There aren't that much big publishers left not to use that occasion for PR stunt. Plus, they never said anything about announcing today new publisher. Contrary, they said "a new wave of games is coming".

3) they told us about new functions of the website and forum. GOG downloader was one of the most important thing for the community (although I never understood why, because downloading with my browser works perfectly for me), and second thing was private messages. We get those, and you are not satisfied? Because they never told us they are working on GOG Downloader? It was so obvious that I'm amazed someone think it was necessary.

Although I am disappointed about one thing - we still haven't got wishlist ;)


4) and we got information that one of the five is already signed, and two more will be probably signed until summer. And all those 5 publisher were supposed never to be on gog, according to many of forum users.

I think that it's good enough to hear during the conference.

Squeenix :D / Eidos now own some previously Microsoft released games, that's why Microsoft was mentioned. NO WAY they'll be releasing their games on a third party service.

How about CDProjekt not releasing Witcher 2 on Microsoft service?

Not sure if they are doing that, but it is entirely possible. Unlike MS, CDP actually doesn't mind giving up a little control, otherwise they'd only sell their games here.

I'm not so sure. Doing a press release is a normal thing, it happens everyday with various kinds of products, but there was an enticing mystery behind the announcement advertised by GOG. If that's GOG's marketing strategy, I'm not one to say otherwise. Personally I don't think Atari as well as more info on Witcher was worthy of all the hype that preceded it.

I did however enjoy the info on future publisher, pity it's shrouded in mystery yet again *sigh*

Yeah, because it's about making money. And as long as they may use some of their games as an exclusive, available only at their store, they are losing money not selling their games elsewhere. Valve may be not interested, but that's because they have more than half of this cake.

GOG went all mysterious and made me (I'm not the only one.) believe there was going to be some really big news. All I got was a big advertisment for GOG, news about some updates on the site, new games are coming (Like that's something to talk about for a site that sell games and expand their catalogue on a regular basis.) and that a new publisher is signed (Which GOG also has as a business model and not that seldom talks about) .

I'm disappointed and GOG is starting to get the "Cry wolf" effect on me.

So wait;

- we get new high-profile classics
- we get confirmation of three new big publishers (one soon, two later)
- we get the Witcher for cheap and as part of W2 hype
- we get a site update soon with PM and new, still optional, downloader
- we get an update on GOG's well-off status

Which is completely not worthy of any kind of hype? Really?

Too much hype for "just that" you say? Oh. Ok. I just thought it's a very big thing for a smaller, newer digital store to be profitable and marketable and can reel in new publishers for non-DRM sales. But yah, that's so not important, since it's not System Shock or anything worthy of our precious internet time.

The point for me is that the only real news was that the site got a update and that one new game was added. Everything else are hints. So all it really was was a big advert.

Me too!!!! I woke this morning and was pretty excited about the announcement. I was hoping for LA, but kinda thought that even if it wasn't LA, it was definitely BIG. I was busy with work so I only logged on to GOG after everything was over. I saw the Atari & Witcher news and I was honestly still looking for the big news. Imagine horror when I realized that was the big news. It's actually laughable really.

Now take Steam on the otherhand. I don't like them but I must admit, there updates are just posted everyday and there is ALWAYS something new on the homepage, no secret messages or riddles, surprises and other crap.

I tell you what, if it wasn't for the Internet connection thing with Steam, I would be buying all my games there. GOG has got DRM free going for them which is why I am here, but watch out, another player may enter the ring and them what?

I've also stated before that I really don't like the 1 or 2 games per week release thing. You know what GOG, release all the LA games one day and I guarantee that I will buy at least 50% of them in one go, and how many others would too.
