lowyhong: Not everyone uses IRC.

:effort:
If you need us to come and rescue you from North Korea, just ask. If we can revive a forgotten old game like TF2, it should be no problem to teleport you out of Pyongyang or sew your arms back on, or whatever it takes to get the job done.
So yeah, how about a game I can't wander into by mistake? Don't you want to see what a full blown Giants or Fallout Tactics match looks like? Or anything you otherwise would likely have no hope of enjoying in your lifetime.
My pick: Heretic II
Obligatory Steam suggestion: The Ship

CyPhErIoN: what about xfire?
we can make a group for GOG which allows us to see who's online , who's playing what and on what server.

I've thought about Xfire, but it doesn't really support old games. Then I thought of Gameranger, but again it doesn't support many old games either, though it does more than Xfire.

Although Xfire could be customised to (partially) support games it doesn't support by default, see another post of mine (yes, a shameless self plug, I know... and the online ini file needs to be updated). Don't know about Gameranger.

+1 on The Ship
It's a fun game, too bad it's hard to find servers with enough people and no bots.

lowyhong: MSN Messenger or any form of IM to keep in touch? Seems like the best alternative. We can then arrange for multiplayer games via IM.

Xfire, Comrade, MSN, sure. I'll go for MSN, since I don't have Xfire installed and I can't be arsed to install it.
I'll add you, what's your MSN?

I'm not always on, but it's opel_c [at] msn [dot] com.
Now that the GOG Xfire group is up (check the first page), you really have no reason NOT to join the cult of GOG and play games and watch me suck. Unless you have some weird thing against MTV, who owns Xfire. I think.
So, the next order of business is to see who wants to play what. I'll take around, ooh, ten or so choices and I'll let people vote on the one that they like best. Top game will be played for the session. Steam or not, I really don't care. As long as it's old and stuff.
After that, I'll make a list of people who want to get a spot in playing on a set date, as well as getting servers and stuff. People who want to donate a server to whatever game, please be nice and say something.
We really need to make use of those UT2004 servers GOG's paying for...
And Xfire supports pretty much every Windows TCP/IP-enabled multiplayer game GOG sells, so I do recommend that.

I added the servers to the Xfire club's list..
I'll be joining both groups when I get home. Sadly I can't have my copy of UT2k4 back just yet but I'll try and fetch it back soon.
Magical bump.
Anyway, let's list games we want to play. Has to be older than 5 years.

lowyhong: Actually, it'd be a totally wonderful dream if GOG had its own app, like Impulse or Steam, that sets up multiplayer matchmaking exclusively for its games only.

Best thing ever -- PROVIDED it is 100% optional, not that I'd expect less. ;)
Is this in the features wishlist?
