Aliasalpha: For my major networking project I wanted to find a way to build a tin can & string network, modulating the signal to audio through a speaker in a tin can, vibrating it across a string to another tin can with a mic and seeing if I could reliably send data that way. Predictably I was voted down for thinking of something too hard but how awesome would that have been? Playing a networked game of NWN2 over a network made of string and old soup tins

Such a contraption would surely give CRC a nervous breakdown. But it would be awesome to see. Oh yes.
Actually, it'd be a totally wonderful dream if GOG had its own app, like Impulse or Steam, that sets up multiplayer matchmaking exclusively for its games only.

Navagon: I'd be up for some UT 2004 or Dawn of War.
If we're not strictly adhering to the old games rule then you can add a few more games to that, including Quake Wars, L4D, Demigod, SinsOASE, DoW2 & Supreme Commander.
I'm also not on IRC, but a GOG Steam group might not be such a bad idea for the 31.7162% of us willing to tolerate it.

I'm up for that, though I only have few multiplayer games in my account:
HL2: Deathmatch, Trackmania Nations Forever and Team Fortress 2

I second that!

All I can say to that is: hell yeah!

Well, I've got HL2 Deathmatch and Team Fortress 2. I haven't really played much of either, but there's always time to change that.

Well i like the idea a lot , but throwing tomatoes is really temping , but still i would go for the server :)
I've played almost every FPS that's worth playing so count me in on this one.
@ Alias , whats you anti virus method for your string rig + what if the soup tins rust?
@Lowyhong : i totally second your opinion

We can only dream. But for now, we need alternatives.
I'm willing to play

MSN Messenger or any form of IM to keep in touch? Seems like the best alternative. We can then arrange for multiplayer games via IM.

what about xfire?
we can make a group for GOG which allows us to see who's online , who's playing what and on what server.
I thought we were going to use IRC?
Not everyone uses IRC.

I've thought about Xfire, but it doesn't really support old games. Then I thought of Gameranger, but again it doesn't support many old games either, though it does more than Xfire.

Gamespy? I haven't used it much, but it does seem to support older games at least.
