[url=http://www.gog.com/x11]Our holiday sale is here! You’ve been waiting for the chance to pick up all of our great classics at incredible savings, and that time is now. Virtually the entire catalog is 50% off from now until 2 January 2011. While most of you have probably clicked through and are getting games now, let’s let you know about the fine details of the promo.

Activision games are on sale until the 26th of December, so be sure to pick them up early. We’ll do our best to remind all of you via or [url=http://twitter.com/#!/GOGcom]Twitter about that, so be sure to follow us there if you aren’t for updates and reminders. Further, The Witcher 2 will be 40% off during this holiday sale, but the Witcher: Enhanced Edition is 50% off. Finally, there are a few games that are not in our holiday sale: in particular, Codemasters games and Gothic 1 are not included this year.

Our holiday sales are the best time this year for you to pick up all of the classic PC games that you have been waiting to get since you joined GOG.com; Santa also appreciates you picking up games on GOG.com, because that’s less for him to fit in his sleigh. ;)

Happy Holidays to all, and we hope all your gaming wishes come true!

cymrean: Just wait some time, it's natural there will be problems with payment when the entire server is chocking.

keeveek: Such things should not happen anytime. When big sales like this start, lot's of new customers arrive. If they experienced such huge problems with payment in their first contact with the company, they would never buy anything from gog again.
I doubt that.

They know that a huge sale is going on and that the servers are overloaded. I think it will calm down the next few days...

The great thing is that you can 'just reload' and everything is fine - unlike other sites, where you are directed to the main page kicked out.

deonast: Shame about the gothic titles not being on sale, maybe some other time (I have them as a DVD box set anyway).
Gothic 1 is not on sale. Gothic 2 and 3 are included.

Except when checkout times out, and they get your money, but you don't get shit, right?

So it is, which is really weird as on the promo page GOG specifically stated that Piranha bytes was excluded from the sale and the publisher page http://www.gog.com/en/catalogue#all_genres/publisher/Piranha%20Bytes/ shows not special (just gone and bought gothic 3 since the game page does show the discount)

Yes, you`re right... the text above says Piranha Bytes are kept out... strange. But I still want the Original Gothic... what a pitty
Maybe it's because G1 is "Piranha Bytes/Piranha Bytes" as developer/publisher while G2 and G3 are "Piranha Bytes/Nordic Games", and they somewhat messed up the sale flagging or something like that?

GOG has the deal with Piranha Bytes to sell Gothic 1.

And they got deal with JoWood (publisher) to sell Gothic 2.

JoWood was bought by Nordic Games, and they were signed by GOG too. Now they released Gothic 3.

So, Gothic 1 is here because of the deal with Piranha, and Gothic 2 and 3 because of the deal with Nordic Games (JoWood). Nordic apparently agreed to the 50% off sale, and Piranha Bytes guys didn't.

Yes, I was talking about that kind of situations specifically. And maybe they're not common, but in such cases if one person writes down it happend to him/her , a lot of bad fuzz may harm GOG's revenue.
i have been waiting so long for gothic 1 and however it isn't included :/

Which I probably will. Might be "just" 30 bucks, but I'm not used to a crucial service that handles money dying off. Especially not when my end of the bargain was fulfilled, and they indeed made a transfer off my account.
Thanks for the generous holiday sale!

That makes perfect sense. I'm glad I'm not involved in the licensing of games, what a nightmare that would be for GOG

Actually, this case is pretty clear.

To see what they have to deal with you should check SSI AD&D crpgs. Like Dark Sun, Eye of the Beholder or Menzoberranzan.

Some games were developed by SSI (bought by Ubisoft), but other only published by them - they were developed by Westwood (now owned by EA). Dungeon Hack and Ravenloft games were developed by Dreamforge.

Now, until last months, it was Atari who had licence to release D&D games. Now rights are back with Hasbro (except Infinity Games, and Neverwinter Nights), so it should be a little easier to get them here. But still, this is a copyright nightmare.

I was hoping to also buy Gothic 1 to complete the set. It has been on my wishlist since Dec. 10, 2010. Looks like it will just have to stay on my wishlist.

However, I can now clean up the rest of my wishlist that goes back to May 15, 2010. Ultima overload. Thanks!
