just downloaded dark eye chains of satinav (setup_the_dark_eye_chains_of_satinav_2.0.0.4) to reinstall it and the setup advertises arma 2 during installation. unparalleled realism, accurate ballistics along with dynamic weather and environmental effects and YOU CAN'T HAVE IT. did anyone else experienced "YOU CAN'T HAVE IT" advertising?

There are several games advertised in that installer not available.

simple solution:
keep the advertising to the web page and remove it from the installers. It shouldn't be there in the first place.

second, if GOG would start to always listing the changes whenever they update something, there would be a lot more positive reactions i would guess. Instead of the now common: "wtf, got changed this time" :p

I had never seen the ads until recently - no EULA or ads when installing on Mac.

Happen to me a couple of times, I suppose it would be too much of a hassle for GOG to examine all the installations and remove any ads for removed games (I also suppose they may not know where all of them located).

I've seen ads for games that aren't on GOG anymore with the installer. I just don't watch the installer anymore, it installs pretty quickly while I check my email.

The best solution would be to use web connection (if available) to display right adds. Though that would cause some people to tighten the foil hats around their heads and speculate about DRM.

I think those little ads are the thing that keeps gog running long term.

Remember that all games are DRM free, which means that you can share an installer with a friend, and as soon as he installs the game he sees gog offers a lot more rad games likely making him interested in the site. Same goes for pirated installers.

Best solution. We are already customers, we have already bought games if we are running installers, we are aware of the site, etc. Put adds in the free games if you like, but they don't really belong in the purchased games.

We also need the change log as suggested.

Web based adds tied to the installers would NOT be received well. It would go against the core values of GOG (offline installers, etc.).

If i were to rebuild and strip the installer (as i have another thread on), that would be one of the things i wanted to fix. I wanted to put in screenshots of the game, keyboard/controller default configuration, etc.

Wow, I didn't know you couldn't buy Arma anymore from GOG... and I think the games advertised in the installer are pre-packaged and aren't updated to remove games that are... well... removed.

I kind of like the ads, it shows cool games I might not have played yet and if I have I'm like "oh right, that game was pretty cool". Besides, it's not like the ads are obscuring any relevant information, regular installers have just some stupid animation showing a sheet of paper moving from one folder to another in an infinite loop.
