I know it's only the middle of October and it's very early to talk about these sort of things but

I have just been thinking lately....

Have you seen the recent promos? Almost the entire catalogue from Atari, Activision, Ubisoft....all 60% off which is very impressive

If we are already getting such great deals I can only imagine how great the Christmas sales should be this year.

70% off everything maybe?
"The more you buy, the less you pay" Special promos?
Quick flash promos with huge discounts?

I'm expecting the GOG Christmas sale at the end of the year to be glorious, what do you think about this?
*Ian starts to plan the games he is going to buy as giveaways :D*
plus you'll get this

I think GOG's Christmas sales will be good, but I also think that your specific expectations are largely unsubstantiated.

TET has repeatedly stated that he's not a fan of huge discounts - because he's smart enough to see the long-term effects. Huge discounts will move many units, but at a smaller revenue, and have to be bigger each time you repeat one.

GOG will definitely _not_ try to ruin themselves by offering the whole catalogue for 70% off (and then barely selling anything til summer).

The last summer sale, as well as the current 60% promos, are experiments to see how more units can be moved _without_ going into huge discounts. I don't know how successful the summer sales were, but if they produced enough sales, then we might see something similar at Christmas. Or we'll see another "whole catalogue at 50%" promo, but certainly no "70% off".
whole catalog at 50% seems most sensible thing to do, games are already dirt cheap, they don't need to become underpriced
I doubt it'll be 70% off everything, but I hope it will be better than 50% off everything. 50% isn't much of a discount when steam, amazon and gamersgate will be offering loads of 75% off deals at around the same time...actually, 50% isn't much of a discount, period.
The sales have been so good lately because they're part of GOG's birthday celebration:
Leading up to October 18th will be three weeks of birthday sales, and then on Thursday October 11th, one week before the 4-year anniversary, GOG will be announcing a new deal with "one of the finest indie developers of video-gaming magic."
I have no idea what the sale will be, but let's try to keep our senses of entitlement in check.

Kids these days...

I remember the days where we were grateful and rejoyced when it snowed 10% less, while going uphill in summer. And getting another beating for free for every ten we got.

Those days were kind of shit, but it was an honest kind of shit. not the artificial kind of shit you see these days.
50% is not a good discount, what? O.o

Back in my days, when I frolicked with dinosaurs, anything over 30% discount was like a huge thing..

I think I am getting old...

Yeah, the games here are already definitely not-pricey. Particularly since we usually have game packs, so it's more than one game for the price. I don't think heavy discounts are something GOG really needs.
I'd just like to see another free game like last year's Empire Earth Gold. It's what originally brought me to the site.
I was only referring to digital downloads of video games. I thought that was obvious due to context, but maybe not.
I don't think that GOG has to do a huge sale. I am sure, they will put several titles on sale at a fixed price (I think the "increase the percentage by title you buy" sale has completely disapeared from GOG). But the Community will hold a lot of giveaways this year again.

What did we had last year? The 2011 Advent Calendar (3 titles per day with several full price games included), some huge giveaways (can't really remember the number of giveaways or the games given away).

Scripting of the 2012 Advent Calendar is nearly finished and will be huge :) Contributions are still welcome: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/planning_phase_2012_user_driven_gogcom_advent_calender/page1

So, let us share the joy or christmas and GOG in the community have a sale or two from GOG as well :)

Hey, if you're gonna do the calendar again, I'll participate with a game or two. Or three. Perhaps four? Five?
