I never played God of War or God of War II. I definitely intend to buy God of War III but I am not sure on something. Should I buy and play through God of War and God of War II for the story? Or is it really not worth the money and I should just look up the story on Wikipedia?
God of War 1 & 2 are two of the best games on the PS2 (assuming you like that style of game)... Gameplay was fluid, story compelling (well... Enough to make you keep playing :p), Kratos is a generally unlikely prick (in a cool, likable way) and the combat is the most brutal this side of... Possibly everything.
As you can tell I'm a GoW fan :)

Chains of Olympus (PSP) is very very good also though shorter.
The story is what keeps the game afloat. That, and the awesome visuals for the PS2 ones and the PSP Chains of Olympus. I think you should get the first two as well, just in case you don't get the story.
help, I'm not interested in the series what so ever and have never played it. The graphic nudity and violence are not something I'm extremely interested in. Especially the glamorization of it, and the lax laws in my area.. I've seen stores sell this game to minors..

Not to mention homosexuality! (!HORRORS!) I mean, he is a Spartan after all.
I'd say at least get the second one, since it ended on a cliffhanger and three will pick up where it left off.

Will it really? Or will it pull some bullshit like Halo 3 and start completely disconnected and with no explanation as to how things got to where they are unless you buy some extraneous material?

Unlike Halo, God of War doesn't have a book series, comics books, etc. So, I would think it would at least explain what happened between the two if it didn't.
Anyone else played Conan for the PS3? One of the most blatant ripoffs of the God of War series that doesn't try to hide its "inspirations" at all. The same three colored orbs for health, experience, and magic, the overt violence, gratuitous topless women, the quick time events.
The animations aren't quite as polished and the story telling is quite as epic, but still a decent current gen knock off diversion to play though until God of War 3 comes out.
